Agree. In fact I think the whole rooftop concert is more energetic and powerful than the Let It Be album. Or it could be that watching the performance is more impressive than simply listening to music.

I hope this counts…Only one Beatle but I never really heard this song before this version…..
So many hooks in the song and the arrangement, shown off to their best here ….
Don’t know why Paul doesn’t include it anymore the audience clearly adored it……..Maybe because he doesn’t want to reach a high on one of John’s songs??
Ahh sibling rivalries !!!!

The rooftop DLMD is priceless for John’s bleebly-bloobly lyrical substitution alone – one mark of a great musician is not how he avoids errors, but how he can turn an error into something magical and new. I can never hear this bit without picturing John’s what-the-hell grin moments afterwards.
Not necessarily the performances themselves, but I do enjoy hearing the way the Rubber Soul era songs sounded live in 66, with the guitars all slightly more fuzzy. They were masters of so many subgroupings of guitar tones, and that’s a particular interest of mine…just interesting to hear em switched up occasionally!
I also find the various full-band renditions of Yesterday quite fascinating. You really get the sense that J/G/R knew what a special song it was, and were equally happy to contribute as to let Paul perform solo.

I wonder how they decided to play Yesterday with the full band. It’s the only song they did live I can think of where they completely changed the arrangement from the studio version.

Yeah, I can see why. The vocal flub moment is heartwarming and so John.

it’s more a symptom of them having greater difficulty performing their more recent material back then for the tours… it’s why they turned to old gems like ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Music’, etc. instead of opening with something like ‘Tomorrow Never Knows ‘ from the new album (although there’s a great rendition making the rounds this week of Sean Ono Lennon playing it in concert with Geddy Lee of RUSH)… the ‘Opportunity Knocks’ live version of ‘Yesterday ‘ is a pretty good stab at it, but they couldn’t exactly bring an orchestra with them on tour and sequencers weren’t even thought of back then… what’s interesting with ‘Yesterday ‘ is that apparently Paul played it live on a keyboard for their late 1965 tour of Britain, but unfortunately no audio has ever surfaced to date… would’ve really liked to have heard ‘We Can Work It Out ‘ live for it was also performed on the same tour… probably even take a recording of that tour over ‘Carnival Of Light ‘ or ‘Helter Skelter (Take 3)’ any day…:-)

I love this version of “I Saw Her Standing There ” much better then the studio version, although I have no idea why. There’s just something about it that I like a lot.

Love the song, love that song choice (Elton’s? John’s?), love that unique duet…But generally find live Beatles renditions of that song frustrating, if only because they often dropped the George solo/bridge repeat or both, lazy barstewards. I wanna hear the full performance! (If they really needed to shave 30 seconds off their 30-minute appearance time, why not just take a prelly and play the complete arrangement 50% faster?

I hate that they did that song. Elton John and John Lennon ? Of course it is a great song; a classic, but I with Elton on the keys I need something where he can really go to town. Not a fan of I Saw Her Standing There without Paul. I would have much rather had a Don’t Let Me Down or a Revolution where Elton can really let it loose on the mic and they keys while playing a song more associated with John.
Songs I prefer the live versions of, C Moon, Coming Up , Twist And Shout , She’s A Woman , All My Loving , Till There Was You , Dig A Pony and Don’t Let Me Down

“Any songs you think they did better live than in the studio?” – I read “they” as The Beatles as a performing group, not the individual Beatles members performing Beatles´songs later on, with the help of modern technology, or performances of their own songs live compared to the studio releases. I stick to the Beatles as a live band -one of my favourite subjects!
I prefer ANY live version, concert or radio or whatever, of ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand ‘ and ‘Roll Over Beethoven ‘ to the official, because of the absence of handclaps. Same with ‘You can´t do that’ because the cow bell is not there.
‘From Me To You ‘ from Liverpool 1963 with Ringo´s heavy drum beat intro, is THE version for me.
‘You Really Got A Hold On Me ‘, live in 1963, with a full ending instead of the fade-out, check out the best quality version on Swedish Radio, or the bit from Wimbledon Palais which includes the ending.
But the real diamond is the “live” version of Revolution . As heavy or heavier than the ‘Revolution ‘ single version but including the “shu-bi-dua” chorus as on the White Album ‘s´Revolution I’ take.

Yeah, the studio version of Revolution REALLY misses the ‘Don’t you know it’s gonna BE… alright’-s in the chorus. Also, welcome to the forum!
