No Beatles songs make me cry but In My Life makes me sad so there’s that…
The solo songs that make me emotional are:
Paul’s Little Willow– Good God that music video, I can’t watch it…
John’s Beautiful Boy– Knowing that he never got to see Sean grow up obviously makes me this a sad choice
Mother by John as well, the pain in his voice- uh it’s heart-wrenching
George’s All Things Must Pass, I have only listened to it fully about 3 times because within 20 seconds of it starting I’m in tears They use it a lot in the Scorsese documentary and I was watching it with a stranger-roommate before and there was me just sobbing into a pillow,
Of course, Stuck Inside A Cloud, as well for obvious reasons- “Never slept so late, never smoked so much…talking to myself, crying out loud, but only I can hear me, I’m stuck inside a cloud…lost my will to eat…they don’t even have a cure” Jesus, it’s so sad, especially if you’ve lost someone to a disease like cancer where they slowly fade away.
And finally Brainwashed, purely because it’s the last “proper” George album that there ever will be.

Oh my god, I just watched that, and honest-to-goodness tears were running down my face. I had already just heard the song twice, and I was thinking, ‘oh, pleasant little tune, very nice, good old Maureen,’ and then I saw the video and I was thinking, ‘ah, how touching,’ and then I got the the hospital bits and lost it.

Yesterday can always make me cry, but I try my best to hold it back, and same with Help ! and Old Brown Shoe . It’s not that they make me sad, though, it’s that they are such beautiful songs I tear up when I hear them. That’s happened with a lot of their songs, actually.

A lot of George’s songs do that to me. I don’t exactly tear up, but I do feel simply overwhelmed by the Harrisonics. As Jeff Lynne put it, ‘He can do just one note on a slide guitar and send shivers up the back of your neck.’

‘Hey Jude ‘ can get me if in the right mood. I find there is a community togetherness aspect to it that gets to me. ‘Happy Christmas (War Is Over)’ did as well as few days back as I adore the sentiment of it. A Christmas song that has a real message to it beyond the normal getting gifts and drunk whilst either fighting or having fun with family/loved ones. Its by far the best Christmas song ever.

This might be trite, but “Help ” makes me blubber (or at least it did yesterday). I was already in an unfair situation and felt like everyone was against me. I needed the Beatles to help me feel better and pressed shuffle on my iPod and the most relatable song at the moment came on. There aren’t many times in life where you really feel something otherworldly happen like that. 🙂

A few days before Christmas I was out and heard it in a restaurant, as dutifully posted to the Beatley Moments thread, and I must admit it got me a bit teary… the ‘Let’s hope it’s a good one, without any fears’ bit. I’d heard it many times, but there was something about that particular instance that was very moving.

I think the only Beatles song that has actually made me cry is She’s Leaving Home . The lyrics are really touching, especially the lines of the girl’s parents and the line “something inside that was always denied for so many years”. Just thinking about these lyrics as I am writing this brings tears to my eyes.
The song that comes closest to She’s Leaving Home is probably Two of Us, with the line “You and I have memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead”. I will always believe that Paul wrote that with John in mind.

I’ve never cried at a Beatles song, but Golden Slumbers and Carry That Weight have gotten me the closest to doing so. The bit at the end of Magical Mystery Tour with Your Mother Should Know can get me a little, too. Watching it sort of felt like a goodbye, if that makes any sense. I also sometimes avoid Here Today because it’s just too emotional for me. I’ve lost many important people in my life–and recently at that–so it hits very close to home.

Two of Us, when I 1st saw the movie, and even now, because, no matter what Paul says, for me it was a ‘farewell, I still love you’ song to John..
And Happy Xmas (War is Over) just for its pure innocence and the kids voices, gets me more often than not.

I think its the ‘War is over, if you want it’ refrain that does me in, for some reason it evokes compassion and images of war and what a useless thing it is. I think that’s the strength of the song, it’s for all of us who are ignored when the war lust grips our leaders.
