‘The Beatles’ is a goldmine for fascinating fragments, as they are everywhere on the two records…But how about the ‘Can You Take Me Back’ fragment before ‘Revolution #9′? …Quite haunting, I would say.

Ooooh I agree! the “take me back” part always gets at me for some reason. it’s chilling.

John’s “ey-up!” at the end of Bungalow Bill, just before While My Guitar Gently Weeps comes stomping in.

The way Paul sings a different higher harmony on the last line of Nowhere Man .

The ethereal chorus of She’s Leaving Home .

The doo-wop harmonies in the final section of Happiness Is A Warm Gun .

The bass fills in Paperback Writer .

The jazzy drums in the opening of Tell Me Why .

SHUT UP - Paulie's talkin'

Reminds me of Paul’s “All together now!… Everybody!” near the end of Lennon’s All You Need Is Love :

In this studio performance (with lots of hippies sitting around on the floor watching) you can see John smile at Paul at the “Everybody” — then a second later, the camera shows Mick Jagger sitting on the floor in the audience singing along:

She Said She Said  bridge when John sings “When I was a boy, everything was right” particularly the phrasing John uses for the words “boy” and “right” in combination with the whole bridge time (rhythm) change … guitar layering, etc. Gets me every time :-)

Yeah, and it’s so easy, unlike so many other programs I’ve tried.

I love John’s singing in ‘Tell Me Why ‘: “Izzit something that I said or done?” like he’s almost crying it out in frustration!
Cool

I love John’s singing in practically every song on A Hard Day’s Night . I like the way he pronounces his words, especially in You Can’t Do That . “Because I told you befo’ ohh you can’t do that,” I don’t know why, but I love how he sings that.

John’s prouncement of “Peter Brown” in The Ballad Of John And Yoko .

Ringo’s drumming in I Feel Fine as the song kicks back into the groove after the guitar solo.

The tabla beats at the end of the western and indian instruments duel in Within You Without You  before George comes back in (that instrumental passage is one of the best solos on a beatles record ever – especially when played LOUD).

The echo on Ringo’s hi hat in the Spector mix of LIB .

The opening guitar chord in All Ive Got To Do.

Ringo going insane and beating the hell out of the bongos on Youre Going To Lose That Girl.

<<< Yes … John was certainly at the top of his game during AHDN (1964). He wrote and sang some great stuff during that period! Well … I guess he always did while he was with The Beatles :-) I agree about YCDT. Love the gruffness in his voice on that whole tune. And then If I Fell .. also on AHDN album … his vocal phrasing “don’t run and hide” is very cool. And then his vocal harmony throughout with McCartney is brilliant! And hard to sing BTW … if you have ever tried to sing it while playing guitar. At least it is for me :-)

I thoroughly enjoy the bridge to While My Guitar Gently Weeps . I was just playing it on bass, and I’m glad of it’s existence.

The bits in I want you where they go HEAVYYYY HEAVYYY HEAVYYYY.

The drums on A Day In The Life

When Golden Slumbers goes into Carry That Weight . I love the transition!

Some instrumental orchestra bit in The Long And Winding Road which always gets me emotional for some reason.

Can’t think of anything else off the top of my head.

Ringo’s double quick drumming at the very very very end of Hey Jude heard far louder in the mono mix which also fades later so more of it.

Pauls drumming on Dear Prudence  after the second “Dear Prudence wont you let me see you smille” and John resings “Dear Prudence won’t you come out top play” (starting at 2:50).

Ringo’s faster madcap drumming on Oh! Darling  as it moves into “when you told me you didnt need me anymore…”.

The opening drums on What Youre Doing.

And finishing the drumming section for now Ringo breathing energy and life into Blue Jay Way which has some good parts but is a rather uninspiring tune (how on earth can people say Ringo wasnt a brilliant drummer?).

True! I also like his voice on “I’ll Cry Instead ” The way he says “guhls” instead of “girls.” I love it!

This tubechop I can tell is going to be addictive!

So going back to the start of this thread,

I love the “oh” in I should have known better:       http://www.tubechop.com/watch/704888

The little melody on the organ at the end of Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite :   http://www.tubechop.com/watch/704893

The harmonium counterpoint in Wait at the end of “wait” “til I come back to your side” etc… http://www.tubechop.com/watch/704897

The ending of Wait – the descending melody, the drum frill, the guitar notes:  http://www.tubechop.com/watch/704910

I highly recommend this (thanks again to Funny Paper).

A musical clip is worth a thousand words. (Some of you might want to go back and illustrate your point in this manner)

The Walrus said
This is what makes “Help !” so good.

  • “I need somebody!”
  • George’s backing vocals on the title track- “and now I find…”
  • “Now today I find, you will change your mind
  • “Last night is the night…”
  • “it makes me wanna cry!
  • “Hey! You’ve got to hide your love away!”
  • “Please come on back to me
  • “But when you told me, you don’t want my loving any more
  • Through thick and thin she will always be my friend.”
  • “She’s gonna change her mind
  • “She would never be free…”
  • “My baby don’t care…”
  • Paul’s backing vocals in Act Naturally
  • The chorus of It’s Only Love – lyrically clumsy, but the ascending vocal… “It’s So Hard , loving you…”
  • If you leave me, I will follow you and bring you back where you belong…”
  • “Tell. Me. What. You. See!”
  • “Falling, yes I am falling, and she keeps calling…”
  • “I’ve been alone and I have missed
  • “But other girls were never quite like this”

If you add any more fruits and nuts to that pastry, you’ll transcend “fragments” and be back to the whole enchilada !

I’ve always been curious about the Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey! segment in Kansas City . I wish I knew exactly the note they’re getting there.

I like the way John Lennon says “Strawberry Fields fur-ev-ah” almost sounding like Michael Caine.
