Just a general statement here that’s been on my mind after listening to so much radio at work (against my will). Music doesn’t always have to be about loving someone. They have their place of course. But give me songs about being tired, locations that have been dreamed up and characters like Rocky Raccoon . That’s what I like about the Fabs, the diversity of content, and the world they created with their lyrics.

Speaking of creating a world – I personally love songs that have a third-person narrative, like “She’s Leaving Home “. Tom Petty did this a lot over his career and I really gained an appreciation for that art form through his work – “American Girl”, “To Find A Friend”, “Leave Virginia Alone”, “Swingin'”… just to name a few.

The band Phish created a fiction world called Gamehendge with its own mythology. Primary lyricist Tom Marshall does an excellent job of third person narratives, and usually they are pretty surreal.

I love, love, love the lyrics to Across The Universe .
They slither wildly as they slip away Across The Universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me

John Lennon ‘s voice is so incredibly poignant in this early Beatles Tune (I Should Have Known Better ), when he sings:
You’re gonna say you love me, too, oh
And when I ask you to be mine
You’re gonna say you love me, too

John’s voice gets really poignant in “Girl”. Then super poignant in “I Want You”. And finally off-the-scale poignant at the end of “Mother “

brilliant.
Near the top in terms of being John’s best set of lyrics. He agreed too, even if he felt like the song itself wasn’t totally nailed.

It’s a song to point to when highlighting John’s brilliance as an artist. He could be a procrastinator but when he struck gold there was nobody better.

The shakiness of the vocals in While My Guitar Gently Weeps . Especially in 00:50 to about 1:30 it’s just so hauntingly beautiful.

I love many of George’s vocals that start to waver as if he’s running out of breath, but then carries through to the end of the phrase, I think he uses a double track with staggered breathing to get the effect. The refrain of Behind That Locked Door is a great example of this.

My favorite song is “While My Guitar Gently Weeps ” and I can’t get over the way George says “I don’t know how” It sounds so good !!
That entire section “I don’t know how you were diverted You were perverted too I don’t know how you were inverted No one alerted you.”
goosebumps.
The song is so beautiful and that part really just hits. I love my guitar gently weeps. :))

My favourite part is when he sings “I don’t know how nobody told you how to unfold your love” That lyric gets me everytime. It’s one of the reasons I love George’s voice so much.

I think it’s a wonderful concept for a song theme: a guitar gently weeping as it is being played. Nice one, George!
