George’s guitar playing is crazy. For some reason it strikes me as a tune that would come from an insane person, however, the way it mixes harmonically with the chords is brilliant. It incorporates so many interesting Chromatics you wouldn’t believe. I was surprised how easy it was to learn.

@TangerineTrees Yes, “Tell Me Why ” was always one of my faves – especially the falsetto part even though I had no idea what they were saying.
@TheQuietOne The outro to “Sexy Sadie ” is indeed absolutely brilliant. I wonder whose idea that was. (I think one of my radio shows was devoted to intro’s and one to outgo’s)

I feel like the guitar solo in Happiness Is A Warm Gun just makes me want to repeat it about 20 times.
Lovely Rita ‘s Piano solo is amazing.
Am I the only one who likes the organ solo in Mr Moonlight ?
Any Honky-Tonk Piano parts of any song (e.g. Old Brown Shoe ‘s intro)
The orchestral built-ups in A Day In The Life
The reversed vocals in Rain are really neat, and were definitely ahead of it’s time.
The beginning of I Me Mine
The last verse in Hey Jude before the “Na-Na-Na, Hey Jude ” part.
The violins in Yesterday .
The middle section in BFTBOMK.

@Magill”I feel like the guitar solo in Happiness Is A Warm Gun just makes me want to repeat it about 20 times.”
Didn’t even remember it. Yea, it’s pretty cool – fits perfectly. It’s John’s song, so I’m figuring it’s John’s solo.
“Am I the only one who likes the organ solo in Mr Moonlight ?” Perhaps. I think it’s the single worst 20-30 seconds (feels like 5 minutes) on any Beatle recording.
“The beginning of I Me Mine” Yup, lot of really clever intro’s and outro’s in Beatle songs. In fact, a remarkable number of Beatle songs feature a catchy/clever/creative intro.

Not as big a fan of the organ on Mr. Moonlight, but I’m a huge fan of Billy’s playing on I Me Mine . I love the early 1970 sessions, with some acoustic outtakes played before they dial it in with electric guitar and organ.

Was listening to A Hard Day’s Night on its anniversary the other day, and these things stuck out to me:
– A Hard Day’s Night : The way John’s double-tracking is slightly off toward the end of the title track (the last “…like a log”)
– If I Fell : John’s wet little intake of breath between “so I hope you see” and “that I” on the last verse
… there was something else but I forgot it

I also love in If I Fell , the dud squeak in Paul’s last “was in vain” – me and my boyfriend like harmonising to this song and I (the Paul to his John) always try to emulate it!

Is it just me or does it seem like something was done to “sweeten” that squeaky “vain” in the 2009 remasters? I remember it being far more striking on my old vinyl…

When you’ve seen beyond yourself
Then you may find peace of mind is waiting there
And the time will come when you see we’re all one
And life flows on within you and without you
-Art of dying
There’ll come a time when all your hopes are fading
When things that seemed so very plain
Become an awful pain
Searching for the truth among the lying
And answered when you’ve learned The Art Of Dying
-the light that has lighted the world
That is happy or ‘free’
For giving me hope
While I’m looking to see
Your eyes may never know
No truth could ever fear me
And left alone with my heart
I’m learning how to love you
Never smoked so much
Lost my concentration, I could
Even lose my touch
Crying out loud
Only I can hear me, I’m
Stuck iside a cloud
Let me lay it on you
Let me know you, let me show you
Let me grow upon you

I’ve got one too many of these moments, but it’ll take some time to come up with a full list. I’ll just say the first one that comes to my head for now, which is the harmonium solo in “The Word “, and it’s subsequent similar fade-out. Love it.

That’s one of my three life songs but “it doesn’t matter much to me’ is a necessity addition as much of life doesn’t mean much; possessions, work, getting thru the days etc ultimately mean little to me. I can give or take a lot in life without being that fussed.
The opening guitar part on ‘All Together Now ‘ is really cool, the highlight of that song.

I really love that For No One starts with “your day breaks, your mind aches” with no context, and it is not a strong line, yet when it is repeated later in the song after we learn more of the story it is a very powerful revelation that is very saddening.
Bonus: “you think she needs you” and “she doesn’t need him” are such miserable, heart breaking lines

perfectly on topic post. Great point there.
“your day breaks your mind aches” is just a simple A A couplet, much less interesting than say John’s Norwegian Wood opening “I once had a girl or should I say, she one had me” an A B C phrase. But the repetition of the opening line makes For No One so impactful.

When in “I’m So Tired “, John gets to the verse “I wonder should I call you but I know what you would do“, the words “know”, and “do” are such a thrill to me.
