Ringo’s fills through the entirety of Abbey Road are masterful. I’m always blown away about how the drums flutter in Something . The way he changes rhythm and drives the Medley forward is also amazing.

It doesn’t get a whole lotta airplay…  whether one interprets the “gun” literally as if you’d just shot someone, or if John’s talking about his own penis…  and probably the most likely interpretation that he’s going on about a syringe (“I need a fix cause I’m going down“)…  it’s understandable why no one wanted to touch it, no matter how sensational the track was…  ironically, it was Sir George Martin who’d first inspired the lyrics for he had a gun magazine lying around the studio where John first read the title “Happiness Is A Warm Gun ” somewhere in it…  he thought “what a fantastic insane thing to say!” and proceeded to run with his patented wordplay…:-)
