Yeah, Annie, great one! And you mentioned ‘It’s All Too Much ‘ Yellow Submarine was one of the last of The Beatles‘ LPs of the originals that I heard, and that ‘heavy metal’ distorted guitar of George’s that kicks it off is my favorite part! I never heard Hendrix play anything that raw!

Me, too. No one’s voice can give me more chills or fan girl moments than his–even his speaking voice. It. Is. So. HOT. Sometimes when I listen to certain songs, especially his intensely jealous or vengeful songs, I find myself grinning like a fool while saying (aloud), “My Lord, what a sexy voice!”, which then leads me to recalling how physically attractive he was. And then I grin wider.
I have come to the conclusion that if I would have had the fortune of living at my age in the sixties and had the even greater fortune of meeting The Beatles, I would have been one of the many girls who fell into his love trap. I mean, I’m eighteen and I already have a massive crush on him–and he’s dead! He would have had no problems getting me to fall for him. Just sayin’.
Man, I am such a girl…
*Embarrassing fan girl moment: OFF!*
Anyways, we should probably .

What a great post, Dipsy!
From someone old enough to be your (very young) grandfather, I’m grinning ear-to-ear just as I’ve finished reading it, and I’m not embarrassed at all!
One of the many unique qualities about The Beatles is how both birds and blokes, or a couple, could both be equally attracted to them, yet in their own different ways – guys can imagine being best friends with a Beatle, girls can imagine being romantically involved with a Beatle, and either one would be happy for the other if they got their wish!
I love your post so much because it’s exactly what females, young and old, would be texting & emailing their friends if there had been cell phones and laptops in 1964.
You gave me a really good memory of how much effect The Beatles had on young people like me over ten years afterthey broke up!

Thank you, Wildcat! You have no idea how much better that helps me feel about my post.
I get easily embarrassed talking about my crush on John because I try my hardest not to be one of those girls who incessantly talk about those good-lookin’ menfolk (as I like to call them), and–alas!–he makes me go into that annoyingly girlish state. I mean, I kept it a secret for about three and a half years: it wasn’t until a few months ago that I finally admitted to it. *No one was surprised, so I suppose I didn’t do as good of a job at hiding it as I thought lol.* Not that I was bashful about having a crush on him (can you really blame me?); I was bashful about being so typically girlish about it because I didn’t want people to associate me with “those girls“.
My best friend has recently gotten into The Beatles, and she already has a crush on Ringo! Crazy how girls are still falling for them…almost fifty years later!

I would totally settle for being just his best friend. I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!

Wildcat–
I could rant about “Only A Northern Song ” belonging on Sgt. Pepper ‘s but what the hay.
Back in my high school days, I used to sneak some bedroom weed and listen in the dark to Side One of YELLOW SUBMARINE under “cans,” those old-style headphones that shut out the world. I loved the way “Only A Northern Song ” pressed against my skull and made me see colors with my eyes closed. And the WIDE stereo on “Hey Bulldog ” by contrast, was so cool. Oh yes those were the days!
To get back on topic:
The cool sax licks on “Lady Madonna ” and “Savoy Truffle .”
The fadeout of “Magical Mystery Tour .”
The alarm clock and “hah-hah-hah” panting on “A Day In The Life .”
The string statement after “..is equal to the…” in “The End .” The flown-in strings behind John on the first verse of “I Am The Walrus .”

Not really a “fragment,” nor ever officially released, but the 17-minute ‘studio talk’ from the “Think For Yourself ” rehearsals has so many funny “fragments” throughout (John, barely audible in the background, singing “Do you want to suck a penis, doo-dah-doo”;) with pretend ‘old-people’ arguments (Paul: “If you look in your BIBLE..”) and cutting up, you could spread them out between songs on an entire CD.It’s a crime that it wasn’t added to the Anthology collection.
There it is Wildcat, I had heard this about a year ago and its been bookmarked on my computer since. I love it, and if you haven’t heard it you should take the time and listen. It’s incredibly funny and insightful as to what sessions were like. Poor George though haha, working with John and Paul just messing around all the time it seems. I wish I could find more clips of just them talking like this.

The end of “Twist And Shout ” where the harmonious ahhs build up to a crescendo followed by the last few guitar chords mixed with Ringo’s crashing drums/cymbals.
To me, the last few moments of that song are equivalent to chugging 3 cups of coffee – really gets the blood pumping.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Pauls piano at the end of each Nah Nah Nah part in the verses eg before Hey Jude dont let me down you have found here, now go and get her for example.
George’s opening solo to Roll Over Beethoven .
The hi hat before Please Mister Postman starts.
The sudden start of No Reply at the beginning of Beatles For Sale . Such a great way to open the album, just grabs you and brings you in. Plus the studio chat before Take 2 on the anthology especially John “just put in an A [chord]!”, Paul “NO!”, John “Yeah”.
There is so much studio dialogue that could be included.
And if we are allowed outtakes – at the end of One After 909 (Take 2 – 1963 recording) after George has played a horrendous solo John says “what kind of a solo was that!”. Listening to John getting more and more frustrated as that session went on is such a guilty pleasure.

“The Word ” – John: “Now I know what I feel must be right, Im here to show everybody the light“
“The Long And Winding Road ” (Live version) – the song gets better and better, and then: “dont keeeeep me waiting here, dont keep me waiting! Lead me to your dooooor”
“Got To Get You Into My Life ” – Basically the whole song, but the verse: “Got To Get You Into My Life !! Da da da Da Da daa, Da da da Da da Daaa”
“I Me Mine ” – The meaning of this song sends shivers down my spine, and especially: “Now they’re frightened of leaving it
Everyone’s weaving it, Coming on strong all the timeee! All through the daaay I Me Mine .”
“You Cant Do That” – “Well its the second time I caught you talking to him, do I have to tell you one more time I think its a sin?!” His a jealous guy indeed, haha.
“Money” – at the end of the song when they sing “Yeaah give me money” etc, and John suddenly yells: “I wanna be free!!” best line of the song.
“Lady Madonna ” – “Seee hoow they RUUUUUUUUUUN!“
“Carry That Weight “- That point when the orchestrial version of “You Never Give Me Your Money ” comes in, just.. pure genius.
“A Day In The Life ” – The whole last verse: “I read the news today, Oh booooy. Four thousand holes in Blackburn Lankshireee. And though the holes were rather smaaaall. They had to count them all, now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert haaaaaall! Id looove to tuuurn yooou oooon” and then the orchestrial and the big bang at the end. That part takes my breath away.
And, is it allowed to pick song fragments from their solo carriers? In that case:
Paul McCartneys “Driving Rain ” – “You came walking through my doooor. like the ones that Ive been waiting fooor. Letting sunshine in the darkest places WHEN, I’ve been going there agaaaaain”
“Live And Let Die ” – In the middle of the song it turns kinda quite with the violins etc, and then he goes: “You used to saaaaaaaaaaaaay live and let live…” That one line is so super powerful.
And probably 3040400550050 songs more.

I like:
The backing vocals on “Back In The USSR .” (Paul?)
John’s passionate intro to “Mr. Moonlight” and the lines of this song he sings solo.
The intro of “She’s A Woman ,” right through when Paul’s bass joins in.
The string counterpoint on “I, Me, Mine.” (To heck with “naked” Let It Be !)
The phrase “Patagonian pancake” from “What’s the New Maryjane?”
George’s (?) two note intro to “Sgt. Pepper (Reprise)” and Paul’s “1,2,3,4…”
The relaxed musical interlude before “Sing it again..” on “Your Mother Should Know .”

I like the section of “I’ll Cry Instead ” when he says “I’ll show you what your loving man can do”, mainly because of the descending bass part on it.

Holsety, you’ve GOT to hear Joe Cocker’s cover. The bass is played on a stand-up bass, and that descending bass line REALLY stands out. Thanks for reminding me!
I must say, you’ve all given me a zillion little tidbits to go back to.
Here’s another: the super-electric/trebly guitar solo in “I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party ” ( a precursor to the solo in “Nowhere Man “?). I used to try for hours to get that sound on my guitar by playing way down low near the bridge; too bad it was a nylon string acoustic guitar….
