I’m not even sure what bittersweet means, but there are songs that I enjoy so much that when I listen to them I cry (which can actually be super annoying and confusing). The biggest offenders are Help !, Yesterday , Penny Lane , Hey Jude , The Long And Winding Road , and Here Comes The Sun . It can really happen with any song, though, especially when I think about how much their music means to me and how great they are and how mUCH TIME AND MONEY I HAVE WASTED IMMERSING MYSELF IN THEIR STOry and magic and how super cute they are and that sparkly jacket Richy wore at the Grammys in 2014. ):

Wow haha, I don’t even remember posting that. In My Life is definitely a song I can’t listen to without tearing up. I think Two Of Us is also very sad.

The Hole Got FixedI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I don’t think that anyone has mentioned Ram On . One of the most beautiful songs by a Beatle, up there with Long, Long, Long and it renders me immobile during a nice listen. The song is so simple and the ukulele is so tender.

No doubt it will have been mentioned already but one for me is ‘God ‘. The build up to, and the initial impact of “I don’t believe in Beatles!” is still incredibly powerful. The emotion, meaning, and significance afterwards also continues to carry one hell of a punch.
I just believe in me
Yoko and me
And that’s realityThe dream is over,
What can I say?
The dream is over
Yesterday
I was the dream weaver
But now I’m reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I’m John
And so dear friends
You’ll just have to carry on
The dream is over
John’s vocal is up there with anything ever recorded and put to music. The song is easily one of the best by any Beatle in or out of the Beatles.
George’s demo for ‘All Things Must Pass ‘ (‘Anthology 3 ‘) gets me with
All Things Must Pass
None of life’s strings can last
So I must be on my way
And face another day
Now the darkness only stays at night timeIn the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good
At arriving at the right time
It’s not always going to be this grey
One strong reason is that it will be the song and version played at my funeral when I am dead. Burn me, toss me in the sea, throw me in a ditch, whatever you do with my body I don’t care but I want that played.
If going Beatles the basic track for ‘The Long And Winding Road ‘ would be it as I can hear how it’s meant to be there, however, it doesn’t get me in the slightest.

I also forgot to mention Isolation , my go-to song when I feel down and out.
"The pump don't work cause the vandals took the handles!"
-Bob Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues
"We could ride and surf together while our love would grow"
-Brian Wilson, Surfer Girl

So many John Lennon solo songs: How?, Isolation , Mother , Jealous Guy , Beautiful Boy, Love, Look At Me – the list goes on…
For Beatles songs though I’d have to go with Julia .

I always feel ‘God ‘ is hugely underrated in terms of John solo tracks. His vocal in the ‘I don’t believe in’ section is wrenching, and the pleading in his voice in the outro similarly so.

I love She’s Leaving Home , John’s part makes it a great song, I think. The strings, harp, everything, it’s bliss!
Fun fact, my English essay in the Junior Cert (the Irish GCSE) was inspired by SLH. I partially credit it for my A so thanks Beatles!

Thanks, I mentioned it in a post on the ‘Beatles references that you made in schoolwork, at home’ whatever. To give you an idea of how long ago I did the JC, I was doing it the year I joined this forum.
