Rocket Raccoon

His name and aspects of his character are a nod to The Beatles’ 1968 song “Rocky Raccoon “. Rocket Raccoon appeared as a prominent member in the 2008 relaunch of the superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy.

Ok then.

Here’s Rocket’s first appearance in a Marvel comic, Marvel Preview #7, in the summer of 1976:

His next appearance was in The Incredible Hulk #271 in May 1982 (something vaguely similar about that issue title methinks):

He’d only appeared in 10 Marvel comics before Guardians, and often had a sidekick:

Always a favourite of mine. Never knew Paul would mention me and my relationships with rocky and dan in a song.

I’m actually writing a song called “Lil Magill”. It’s basically Rocky Raccoon from Magill’s perspective. We find dan goes to jail, and Magill dates dear rocky again.

Can’t believe George Martin thinks it’s fillergeorge-martin

This is a great one for kids, I could easily imagine this on Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart’s Junior Choice. Used to love singing along. In fact that’s a themed album Apple have missed a trick with after Rock n Roll, Love Songs, and Ballads – Beatles for Kids. For starters, and in no particular order:

Rocky Raccoon

Octopus’ Garden

Yellow Submarine

Maxwell’s Silver Hammer

Goodnight

When I’m Sixty-Four

Drive My Car

Nowhere Man

Everybody’s Got Something to Hide, Except for Me and My Monkey

She Loves You

I Wanna Hold Your Hand

Any more suggestions for a CD’s worth?

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

The kids in school in the movie Yesterday seem to be enjoying the song.

I have to say that for an album like White Album , it has different song suites. If you like heavy, go to Back In The USSR or Helter Skelter . If you like soft, go to Long, Long, Long or Dear Prudence . This album also offers truly great country songs, too – Rocky Raccoon and Blackbird ….

So on a great album like Hackney Diamonds, it offers very heavy material – But if you’re a fan who likes more mature songs, you get Dreamy Skies and Depending On You. Dreamy Skies is the Rocky Raccoon of the album, because it is just an acoustic guitar and vocals pining for peace and quiet. A secret weapon.

Depending On You is more strings and George Harrison – influenced guitar. It represents Something . The fact is, it doesn’t always take screaming or guitar riffs.

This is one of the songs that has grown on me more and more over the years. The piano break is really beautiful.

Rube

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.
