I don’t dislike the lyrics, I just don’t like the label of Revolution being put on the song.I think John has some incredible revolutionary songs like Working Class Hero and Isolation which have had far more impact on me personally because their messages have made me really think about my life. Working Class Hero is the perfect song about the machinery of being processed into the middle class and Isolation ‘s message is more true now than ever because of how isolated most of my generation is from one another because of how small our world is getting. So I just think that those songs are more revolutionary then Revolution is, but just because the song itself is called Revolution people expect it to have some profound answer in it and therefore regard it more highly than those other songs.
Sorry I’ve been rambling, but we just need a change in society. We need a cultural Revolution , a new Beatles to come and change the world with positivity rather than negativity.
Some good thoughts here. It seems to me though that Lennon was specifically calling out the label of Revolution as understood by the counter-culture, attacking the very things people associate with the word that you thought unhelpful. “Sure you want to change things, but doing that isn’t the kind of Revolution you want”. Revolutions of destruction, hate, or ideology isn’t what is needed. So really you’re on the same wavelength, he just decided to call out that use of the word. People just decided to ignore the point of the song, it happens a lot. That’s how a song like Every Breath You Take is still thought of a love song when it’s far creepier than that.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

I have the isolated lead vocal track of ‘Revolution ‘ on my iPod and last night on a long bus journey home whilst playing said iPod on shuffle and whilst drifting in and out of sleep it came on and scared the living crap out of me.

I do the same thing, even with the regular version. It was actually just playing, but when it came on I jumped out of my seat and basically just said
“Oh, that’s just Revolution by The Beatles. Carry on”

The intro to this version was lifted directly from Pee Wee Crayton’s 1954 single Do Unto Others…

I just realized 5 minutes ago that a key part of the main melody of Paul Simon’s “Learn How to Fall” quite closely resembles a key part of the main melody of Revolution .
“You got to learn how to fall…. before you learn to fly…”
resembles
“You say you want a Revolution … well you know…”

I like how Ringo’s playing throughout evokes both marching feet in the streets, as well as the drummers leading soldiers into battle (also in the streets). (And maybe the overdriven guitars are the collective voices of the crowd?)
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I assume you mean in the fast version? I never listen to that one; I prefer the slow version.

Yes, fast version.
I’m not as fond of the slow version, Revolution 1 ; I don’t care for George Martin’s horn arrangement, too much trombone for my liking. I do love hearing the full ten-minute take…
