Note by Ahhh Girl 17 February 2015: Originally this post began a new thread with the title “Please Mr. Postman – Take 3 or 7?”
Hello,
This is my first time on the forum. I had come across the recording from a few years ago. It’s an alternate take of Please Mr. Postman. I believe it belongs to the Alf Bicknell tapes from 1964. I cleaned up the sound a bit. All I know is that it’s a monitor mix (you can hear George Harrison speaking at 1:10) with alternate instrumentation and vocals.
If anyone has extra info on this recording (Or a copy with better sound quality), that would be great!
Please Mr. Postman (Alternate Take)
Thanks!

It’s take 3, take 9 is also on the Bicknell tapes but is the released version albeit the ending is very slightly longer. Not sure about sound quality improvements as it started out pretty average to begin with and there isnt much to be done.

@chrisredditch Its on youtube but you can listen to it thru the link posted by emshicks321 without having to download.
I think the story is that John placed a tape recorder in the studio during a playback of the takes and then later on gave the tapes to Alf when he stopped working with the band in 1966. They were later found in a garage before being put up for auction. You read John C Winn’s entry on the session that yielded this and other material here (just scroll down to the entry #42 – studio session 30th July 1963).
The most complete bootleg of this material is ‘The Alf Bicknell Tapes’ and can be downloaded here. Track listing is

Yes – Watch out for my sense of humour. If not subtle, sometimes it’s funny

LOL, I got the joke, and I was wondering who else did. Perhaps mmm has been waiting a lot for bootlegs to down load.

When you download bootlegs in some places you have to wait for a minute or so before you can so the joke never occurred to me as i just thought it was the same for @chrisredditch here.

I figured that was your line of thinking. I’ve had that “minute” wait before when nabbing files.
