Help , The Fool On The Hill , and Let it Be.

Reporter: Beethoven figures in one of your songs. What do you think of Beethoven?
Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.

Just curious– why The Fool On The Hill ? Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great song, I’m just curious why you picked it.

Love one another.

Just thought it represented that era of their music pretty well. And yes, it is a lovely song, isn’t it?

Please Please Me

A Day In The Life

I’ve Got A Feeling

it really shows the range that they had in all facets. Songwriting, singing, playing, sonic texture, everything was being experimented with and improved upon. To me these three songs are milestones for The Band

-Bob Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues

"We could ride and surf together while our love would grow"

Yes It Is . Though if I picked a song to represent the MMT era, I’d probably pick something from side 2, like Hello Goodbye or Penny Lane

Here is an alternate list for somebody going through a rough breakup.

I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party

Yes It Is

Yer Blues

I would love the transition from the longing and gentle Yes It Is into the rip-roaring Yer Blues

Haha that’s amazing! Three greatly underrated songs. That’s perfect. I feel like the difference between casual Beatles fans and Beatlemaniacs is liking the obscure stuff just as much as the famous stuff.

I think it depends on the person we’re trying to impress with the Beatles. Probably the most interesting challenge would be a person who is completely steeped in the current music scene and thinks anything old is corny (or “lame” if that’s not also dated…). What I’d like to do in this context relates to a person already let’s say in their 40s at least, possibly 30s, seems open-minded about music but is more or less average in that they are stuck with the music that they grew to like in their teens in 20s — so for the 40s person he or she is mainly enamored with late 90s music early 2000s maybe. but they’re capable of saying “sure I like a little jazz, and I can appreciate some country” etc. Of course they’ve heard of The Beatles and probably heard Hey Jude and Let It Be and stuff like that, but if they have any sensibility of creative art at all, then I would choose three that would express unusual variety.

Sergeant Pepper’s (merging into) With A Little Help From My Friends

And, if it’s not cheating, just three of those short tunes that are part of the Abbey Road medley:
