Yeepsi, I think that to be over-rated, a song first has to start has being highly rated.

Hey Jude ” would certainly fit into that category, but I don't think “Yellow Submarine ” was ever highly rated. It took off when it became the basis of the cartoon.

Having said that, because of its notoriety  it had huge visibility and impact.

Still a popular kiddie song, right?

underrated songs long long long one of the best songs on the White Album

shes leaving home often compared to eleanor ridgy

I agree with “I've Just Seen a Face”

However, it WAS the first song on the American Rubber Soul …. So perhaps the Americans thought more highly of it than the British

There’s probably a case to be made that Yellow Submarine is Underrated – because it’s so hated when it’s merely a fun kids song.

As if it matters how a man falls down.'

'When the fall's all that's left, it matters a great deal.

I know meanmistermustard doesn’t care for the song, but actually, I’d never heard of “Hold Me Tight ” in the same breath as “Mr. Moonlight” as a “worst Beatle song.”

Personally, I love the shuffling rhythm and interplay between the guitars.

Hmm, you're probably right there. Another case of me confusing the Beatlesbible community with the real world!

(And yeah, I dig those choogling rhythms too.)

One of the reasons why Yellow Submarine is so disliked is because it does what Paul intended it to do which is be a basic kids song with easy to remember and say words and sing along tune. For which it works very well and doesnt deserve the extreme opinions some people have towards it.

Maybe this is an example of some people wanting the beatles to be deep and meaningful with complex melodies, the same people who will not listen to the 'early stuff' because its too boybandy. 'Beatles must have moustaches and be playing xylophones from the inside out with a lead pipe whilst singing songs of peace and intuitive insights of the human psyche and all that crap yet not take drugs'.

(I have no idea where all that came from.)

I agree with many of you here that says 'Hey Jude ' and 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds ' are overated.

Under rated: What You're Doing, Baby in Black, Don't Bother Me, and I've Got A Feeling. (Plus many many more…)

I find that a lot of my friends always state they hate the 'early Beatle pop stuff…' but I love it! So many great gems on the earlier albums that people miss out on I think…

Try to realize it's all within yourself, no one else can make you change....

I've Just Seen a Face has just made the front page of reddit as the most underrated Beatles song.

I can't disagree, it's quite underrated.

Really? I can't recall seeing anything but praise for that song.

I guess it's just that normal people only really know Yesterday , Hey Jude , A Day In The Life , Revolution , She Loves You , While My Guitar Gently Weeps , etc. You just don't hear about that song very often, though when you do, it is usually positive.

Dalkalopagus said
in my eyes, the White Album is overrated. There are a lot of great numbers on it, but the other half is simply not good.

Underrated:

Babys in Black

You Cant Do That

She Said She Said

Dr. Robert

Everybody Got Something To Hide …

You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away

I Saw Here Standing There

I’ve Just Seen A Face

There’s A Place

Don’t Bother Me

I agree that Baby’s In Black and Everybody’s Got Something to Hide are criminally underrated, although I don’t think I Saw Her Standing There or You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away are particularly overlooked.

Maybe the remarkable high harmonies during the bridge of the song (“Oh how long will it take…”)?

Mark me down as a fan of “Baby’s In Black ” as well. I love the 3/4 time, the sounds of the guitars and the awesome harmonies that Into the Sky with Diamonds mentioned.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Beatles For Sale has such a great opening 5 songs, Baby’s In Black being one of them, could happily listen to those 5 repeatedly and not be bored in the slightest. I do prefer BIB live tho, especially when they sing “see’s the mistake she has made” and Ringo bashes the drums + there is some untold delight in seeing Paul & John singing into the same mic. The live version on the Real Love single has one of my fave intros to any live beatles song.

I Me Mine said
Overrated: Yellow Submarine , Obladi-Oblada

I couldn´t agree more with those two.

I think Yellow Subamrine was just a song that Paul wrote so that he could spread his music to all generations, if you like. You know,we all live in the yellow submarine, yellow submarine… it´s easy for kids to pick up but I don´t think it expresses the genius of the man that he is in any way.

And as for Obladi Oblada, it´s fun and happy-sounding but yet again, not exactly what I would call a masterpiece of his.

Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.
