This is one of my all time favorite Beatles songs, the harmonies, the chord progression, and the Fender Stratocaster, Nowhere Man is to Fender what Mickey Mouse is to The Band Concert, it’s impossible to listen to this song without thinking of a Strat and those harmonies are beautiful.

The guitar tone is so warm and bright on this song. As are the harmonies. Odd that such welcoming music couples with such bleak lyrics.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I know! They sound amazing. The ping at the ending of the solo is like a full stop.

Yes, so much treble, you could swim in it — droooool
I must beg to differ, however: it’s more like an exclamation point!

I love treble in my guitars, the brighter the better.
That’s one of the reasons why I love Johnny Marr’s playing.
Nowhere Man is one of my favourite tracks on Rubber Soul and I used to regard it as one of the best Beatles tracks. I think the simplistic structure lets it down slightly.

Could this be? A fellow Johnny Marr lover?

Yep, I believe I put him at number 5 on my top 10 guitarists list.
He’s up there with the greatest imo.
He was #1 on mine. Actually, Morrissey, Marr and Rourke could all be #1 on their respective lists for me (well, Rourke if not for Macca).

At the end of the Fender guitar solo in Nowhere Man , why does Paul say it’s the place to be.

Anyway…
I had this queued up last night along with The Fool On The Hill , ostensibly as part of my homework; but I never got to TFOTH.
Because after the waves of nostalgia died down — those drippingly trebley Strats are the sound of my childhood, man, that solo takes me right back to being eight years old and drumming with chopsticks on my bedroom furniture — I had a massive revelation:
PAUL PLAYS AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING BASSLINE ON THIS SONG! WHAT THE HECK!
I can’t fathom how I never realised it before. It’s not like I couldn’t hear it — I guess I just took for granted that there was this fabulous melody chugging around in the background there, without ever consciously thinking, That’s Paul playing an awesome bassline. WOW! And the way it locks in with the drumming to support those absolutely watertight blocks or Beatle harmonies, it’s just so… so… so… good It continually blows my mind how impossibly good good music is.
I guess you could say I’ve remembered why the Beatles are the best thing since sliced guitars*
*Wait , what?

@Beatlebug I had that revelation the other day. This is one of those songs where everything comes together: lyrics, production, harmonies, guitar, bass and drums.

The silver lining is “the world is at your command” part. Hopefully we can both hold on.

People keep telling me things will improve. And who knows, they usually do. In the meantime, it’s good to know that we can all be alone together here.

I don’t know if they do. I think with time we become accustomed to our situation, and find enough light to stay interested in life despite any pain we feel. My light is listening to music, reading, writing and recently doing jigsaw puzzles.
