Overjoyed that a CD single has belatedly appeared after there not seeming to be one, ordered instantly. Hearing John’s isolated voice in such great quality brought a lump to my throat. The mini documentary was superb. Showing the whole of it on The One Show with Giles chipping in from the sofa was an event. can’t wait until 2pm.

@sir walter raleigh That’s a REALLY good video. Looking forward to finally hearing the song.
Wheels might be in motion at Apple to give Free As A Bird and Real Love the MAL treatment and/or a new mix by Giles, and that they become a three-song EP CD release along with this one. Would be fitting. Would also explain why there is no CD version of the single as of yet.
I think that’s a solid possibility. but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did Grow Old With Me too as a surprise:
Improved John AI vocals and piano
Ultimate version orchestra
Ringo version drums and Paul’s bass
Giles is clever enough to find a way to include George guitar lifted from elsewhere given his ability – maybe from some solo material that can be made to fit

that preview is so good.
I’m convinced the song is going to be good. It melts my brain when I really think about the fact a new song is coming out even if it’s based on a rough demo and took years to complete.

Only two more hours until it’s released in my area!! I’m all decked out in my poster shirt, bracelets, and apple earrings. I had to quickly make a Now And Then bracelet last night, but it’s abbreviated to “NAT” so it looks like I’m wearing a bracelet for someone named Nathaniel. People probably think I’m a bit weird wearing all of this on a random Thursday, but it isn’t random! It’s a historic day!!!

I’ve decided to go down a specific route to this.
For Paul this is massive personally. The chance to work with John and George (both long gone) and Ringo to do a Beatles record again. It’s probably something that has been eating at home for decades since the reunion sessions in the 90’s ended, more when you consider John’s murder. All gone in one unimaginably horrendous moment no one ever would have believed would have happened. Now it’s finally possible to bring it all to an end for him. Thats pleasing.
So regardless of how it sounds it doesn’t really matter. I hope its brilliant but that’s not that important. Spending a few quid and a few minutes isn’t a big deal compared. Not berating its existence or all the little things I could be negative about I can do. The Beatles have given me so much over the last 38 years or whatever, far more than the money its cost. And so I am going to support it. And be damn greatful that for one more time I get a new Beatles song and be excited all over again.

For people who know that original demo, it’s amazing to hear John’s voice isolated like this with new backing.

I sat there waiting for Radio 2 to play it at around 2:03pm. I was bawling like a baby within seconds and still feel very emotional. It was a proper, old fashioned event. To hear John’s voice that clear was wonderful knowing the state of the original demo. Paul and Ringo have done it justice.

The instrumental segment with the ethereal harmonising really made the song feel like a final coda to the band. One last goodbye in a sense, even though the catalogue is forever and will be replayed over and over. John saying Now And Then I miss you also hits hard in how it relates to him and the band as a whole.

There seem to be two audio videos on YT. In case the one above vanishes (it has fewer views), here’s the other:
I might have shed a tear or two. It’s not a classic Beatles song or groundbreaking like their 60s material, but damn, it’s wonderful to hear them together for a final time. The production is perfect, the lyrics are just right, everything is good.
The Peter Jackson video drops tomorrow. This week is special.

I know it won’t be considered a classic up there with what they did in those eight magical years, but this feels so lovely and it lived up to everything I ever wanted it to be. And that’s enough. Just the magic of having The Beatles together one last time, that’s all the victory you need.

Giles is clever enough to find a way to include George guitar lifted from elsewhere given his ability – maybe from some solo material that can be made to fit
Personally, I thought the more subdued orchestra work that Jack Douglas did for Ringo’s version fits the song better. There’s actually a really good fanmade version someone did using Ringo’s version as the base, but using only John’s vocals (since obviously Ringo is not in the same key or pitch), specifically from a different demo take from the Milk And Honey one where John’s vocals are already clearer.
But that would be nice, to essentially have that all done in mind, and finding some guitar track from George that would fit and be very much like the one Joe Walsh laid down.
But since a CD version of the basic single is now out, people at Apple certainly must think that an EP/maxi-single is the next step for a CD version, and taking a pass at the other two songs, and potentially thinking about Grow Old With Me , would be very fitting indeed. I’m sure they’re already discussing this now.
I don’t think they will. They’ve already said NAT is the last song, Paul and Ringo are getting old, and it wouldn’t look good to put out some additional tracks in the coming months or years. It’s done, finished, this is the full stop. The only things left to come are studio outtakes.

Do I personally think GOWM will be used in some way? No, I don’t think it will. But I know people are going to dream about it.
At any rate, a new mix of the two earlier songs on an EP with NAT is certainly very believable, indeed.

Paul categorically said on The One Show last night “Now And Then is probably the last song” so I live in hope. Who knows, if this is a No.1 next week, the Dae Lims AI version shows what’s possible and is a potential direction.
