I loved it. It was everything a REAL Beatles music vid is/was!
You are welcome to express a differing opinion, but I do not appreciate you using such a condescending tone. I do appreciate The Beatles’ fun music videos – Penny Lane , Strawberry Fields Forever , I Am The Walrus , Fool on the Hill, etc.

Hi there!!
Long time no see guys!!! I LOVED the new song. It’s beautiful, and personally very moving because it was released on a very special day in Mexico: Day of the Dead, the day we remember our beloved departed. And oh boy listening to those lyrics while having the pics of my Mom, my sis, my nephew, and all relatives that have passed away on the altar I set up at home made me cry.
I’m not sure whether I like the video or not. For one, it looks poorly made, but again, we’re talking about the guy who made a video sitting on a plastic duck, another guy who said I Am The Walrus , a guy who played a Caveman and another guy who had the idea of wearing white tux while dancing in their movie….
What I definitely don’t like is the cover. I haven’t searched who designed… but it looks anything but Beatles.
Anyway I love it. I know I’ve said this before, but I will try to hang out more.

I don’t think they will. They’ve already said NAT is the last song, Paul and Ringo are getting old, and it wouldn’t look good to put out some additional tracks in the coming months or years. It’s done, finished, this is the full stop. The only things left to come are studio outtakes.
Give me “Carnival Of Light ” or give me death.
I’m with you there my friend!!! Where’s Carnival Of Light ???????

What’s even wilder than the leathers is that we have sound of The Quarrymen from The Day John Met Paul™. What are the odds that someone just decided to record this incredibly casual and amateur skiffle group?
I’ll always believe that the Beatles were meant to be, and this is proof in my mind. The stars lined up for these four lads from Liverpool.
Anyway, on the topic of Now And Then …
My life’s been pretty hectic over the last several days, but it finally calmed down enough to where I could sit down & properly take in the song & video & documentary (in that order, as it happened).
I’ve been familiar with John’s demo for years, and it’s one of my favorite things he committed to tape. I’m a sucker for a good sad ballad demo, I guess, and this one just sounds so ethereal, yet intimate, heartfelt and so, so sad. The fact that his voice was kind of faraway and drowned out by the piano was part of the magic for me, although it makes sense that that would make it unworkable as a proper record. And, honestly, I was happy enough with the state of affairs as it was. To me, Now And Then was perfect as a “lost John demo”, and I would’ve been happy if it had seen maybe a bit of a cleaning-up of the demo and an official release (the same as the demo of Real Love on the Imagine soundtrack, which is another favorite John recording of mine).
But it makes sense to me that Paul would want to have another crack at it, and I do like what they did with the finished version. I admit I was a little thrown at first by how assuredly it chugs along, given the very sad and wistful nature of the melody and chords, but I understand they were trying to arrange it the way the Beatles would’ve arranged it, which probably would’ve been a bit brighter than an emo home demo. And there is plenty I like about it: the way Paul’s voice comes through to fill in the patchy sections of John’s lead vocal is lovely, the outro is a nice denouement, and overall I do think it’s a very nice tribute to John, and to George. (I agree with @sir walter raleigh, Paul’s slide solo can’t touch what George might’ve played if he’d had the chance, but I appreciate the thought behind it and Paul is ridiculously good at almost every instrument he touches, so it’s okay if he’s not the premiere melodic clean bottleneck slide guitarist that George was.) So, yeah, to quote that one guy on Dark Side of the Moon, “I think it’s nice.” I still have the original John demo squirreled away somewhere for my personal enjoyment when I feel like listening to it in its original form. (For when I miss that B section which they cut out… which I definitely will, because that honestly was such an integral part of the song dynamics for me.)
Now, the video. I was honestly kind of wary and put off watching it for a while, and yeah, I think my reservations were justified. I don’t begrudge anyone their enjoyment or emotions, if they saw it and liked it and/or were moved by it. I’m glad it did that for you. It didn’t do that for me. I think I agree with @Little Piggy Dragonguy as she said it best: it lacks CONSIDERABLE cohesion and polish, and does feel rather like a fanmade video quality-wise – but I think a fan could probably have done a better job with shaping it into a cohesive narrative with a proper dynamic story structure. Nothing fancy, something on-the-nose like “John and George are ghostly presences/memories being seen and felt by Paul and Ringo in the studio as they work with these old recordings” would’ve been fine, with maybe animated or more artistic renderings of the late Beatles to set them apart from the living ones in a more stylized way than just “they’re badly edited in from this other video you remember from the old days, next to old modern Beatles”. I could tell the video was trying to get me to feel something, but I wasn’t feeling it, because I couldn’t be entirely sure what it was. The beginning and the ending were okay, and everything in the middle was just confusing.
Not to end on a negative note, I watched the mini-documentary last., and that actually made me feel something genuine and appreciative. This ties in with my overall review of the finished track, but I definitely appreciated Paul’s desire to pay tribute to his lost brothers in this way, and I thought it was very sweet and I think did them justice.

The song is called “Now And Then ” and its a celebration of everything that was “Then” inn the “Now”! Brilliant. I dunno what people were expecting. RL and FAAB are there for your sappy moments. This is a HAPPY goodbye the way John & George would want.
The track turned out well, so it’s happy in that sense. I’m very glad we got it. But I’ve always thought the melody to this song was one of the saddest sounding that John, or the Beatles for that matter, have ever come up with.
I remember when I was a youngster, I used to think Yesterday was a very sad sounding song. Which I guess it is.
John and the others goofing off in the video contrasted very well with the sad melody, giving the song that Beatles spark that may have been missing from just listening to the audio without any footage. That’s what I got from it anyway. The video celebrates all eras of the Beatles and showing old footage against new is an obvious way to do it.

The Beatles music and music videos are by and large a hallmark of great quality. None of what I’ve just said gives an image of the standard and quality that we are used to by The Beatles in terms of their output. For their final song, and what will most likely be the last music video featuring Paul and Ringo “together” (like I said very poor rotoscoping), the production and execution is incredibly poor and disappointing.
If it means anything, I was being silly. While I can’t agree with you even still, I do sincerely apologize if you took what I said to heart. I didn’t mean it maliciously. “I said what I said and it was wrong – or was taken wrong – and now it’s all this.”
If it makes you and Beatlebug feel better, most aren’t seeing these effects to be nearly so bad. The reactions I have watched and been reading have left people with the intended emotion, so by and large it’s succeeding where it needs to. I stand by that I think it’s BETTER than both the FAAB video and RL IMO. to be honest I find those over rated. this is more heartfelt to me than, say, playing easter egg hunt through Beatle-world like FAAB did. *Shrug*
Again, im sorry if I came across too ugly. Peace & Love.

To make a quick detour: I see it mostly the same way. When I watched it, I mostly compared it to the Real Love video, which I love, and which uses a similar idea of nostalgia and going seamlessly through the different times. And I think Real Love does it so much better with more imagination and just good montages of countless different clips and pieces of footage throughout the ages with some subtly added effects like flying Beatles instruments.
Whereas the Now And Then video doesn’t really go beyond the idea of “let’s put old and young and middle-aged Beatles in the same frame”, also the execution isn’t too good, it all looks very clean and fake and a bit cheap, I’m still shocked by the super fake George (I think it’s supposed to be him) that pops up at the 1:42 mark.

I really like the new version and what that goes for, but as a Lennon purist I still prefer his original demo.
Emotive..painful and full of expression. Nobody did that like him. I think John would’ve probably insisted in keeping the “I don’t want to lose you or abuse you” lyric in the finished version. Kind of how he had the “I used to be mean to my woman” part in Getting Better .

The “I don’t want to lose you” part does something important for the melody too. It is a shame that it’s missing.
It’s the “Use you or abuse you” line that would have been contentious giving a social media feeding frenzy, but given they totally isolated the vocals it would have been easy enough to simply repeat the first middle 8 line to make: “I don’t wanna lose you… I don’t wanna lose you” and give a little variation. I’m not complaining though, it’s fine.

It is him – he went on solo holiday to US in 1963, and stopped off in New York: 16 September 1963: George Harrison holidays in America | The Beatles Bible
What you have is George’s own colourised Super 8 footage. AI still doesn’t get this quite right for faces but sharpens up ropey old b&w generally

Already found a pretty good fan-mix with the missing demo section cleverly edited in:
While it’s interesting to hear, I’ve definitely got very used to the new structure by now and have come around to understanding why that part was dropped – as pretty as the key change and chord progression is, it does come across as quite clunky and meandering, especially as repeated twice here.
Like I said on my earlier post, still could have been nice if they used this as the basis for the guitar solo/bridge, but I’m more than happy with Paul’s slide tribute to George!

I think it’s more that many people are overlooking the horrible effects and instead looking at it from a bigger picture perspective than it is them appreciating them. I’ve had three other people watch this video and they all responded 100% positively to it. However, when we talked further, they all agreed that the quality could have been better and that the four of them pasted into Paul’s studio did not look right.
I personally prefer both the FAAB and RL music videos to this one. They’re more creative, better quality, and have clearer intentions. The video for Free As A Bird was also made to serve a completely different purpose than this video, so it’s weird to knock it for “playing easter egg hunt” instead of being heartfelt. It was the first new single in decades to promote the Anthology series, so it makes sense in that context to try and evoke nostalgia for their music. N&T is mainly a tribute to John and George. It being on the Blue Album is more of an afterthought.

Okay, lets not say the reason they like it is because they’re essentially ignoring it. That’s a bit much. None of this is objective… <3 However I’d counter I’ve seen plenty who think the effects are great and Most, I think, would say the video looks good if not a bit silly, which is perfectly Beatles. I don’t see amateurish. in fact, you can see effort in places there usually IS none in these things (Actual shadows for John standing in front of Paul for example)
However, these are just opinions and we don’t really prove or disprove anything this way. Its probably more fair to say the video is at least good enough for what it needs to be, but maybe not perfect. Some like it, some don’t. Its only anecdotal opinion.
But, I will say I don’t think its fair to call this song "Just" a tribute as if it means nothing. it damn sure IS something. It’d the last "New" thing from all four we will get and its setting the world ablaze right now. It deserves what its getting. It deserver’s its place in history.
At the end of it, disagreements like this are nitpicks. There is a new Beatles song out. Let us all rejoice instead of debating these matters of taste. 🙂
