The most overrated to me is “Penny Lane “. Everyone loves it, but I’ve felt it’s way too simple, and I’ve never liked the lyrics or the tune of the song.

Most underrated to me is “Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite”      I mean this song should honestly be compared to A Day In The Life . It’s a real masterpiece when you hear all the different sounds, the tune, and the story of the song itself.

I love Penny Lane – it’s just bursting with joy. I notice your underrated song, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite, is from Sgt. Pepper ‘s (and many feel Peny Lane should have been on it). Are these really your most over- and under-rated Beatles songs of their career?

Trying to pick two from the entire canon is mind boggling.

For overrated I’d say Hey Jude .

For underrated…sheesh there are lots…I have a soft spot in my heart for Lovely Rita . In another topic we were talking about alliteration and I went through the lyrics to it. They’re a masterpiece of rhyme, alliteration, and meter while being incredibly simple on the surface – I compared its prosaic quality to Shakespeare (and I believe it is even iambic pentameter 😉

Half of what I say is meaningless...

I feel good in a special way, I'm in love and it's a sunny day

In the recent BB poll, I rated Penny Lane an instant 10 — and also rated Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite an instant 10.  Two quite different songs, but both in my estimation solid gold.  I disagree with “I was the walrus” that Penny Lane is simple.  It may sound deceptively simple, but the chord changes are quite novel.
