I posted a comment a long time ago here at BB; I wish I could find it and just paste it here. Anyway, the gist was that when I first tried to sing along to certain Paul songs like Hello, Goodbye and Penny Lane , I had a curious experience: his voice sounds simultaneously high and low. Or, to put it another way, he’s singing high but with the kind of “oomph” that one only gets singing lower. Needless to say, I could not — and still cannot — duplicate the fullness of it. That was when my appreciation of his vocal talent went beyond just “wow Paul can sure scream”.

I know this might not be the most suitable thread to ask this (please remove the post elsewhere if it’s not where it should be) but I really need to know: How does one get into singing? My voice is pretty awful and might still be mutating, but I’d like to stay in tune for some back vocals while singing with friends. Or who knows, one day with a band. I have a guitar, free time and lots of desire. My current wish is to rock Twist And Shout somewhere on the beach with friends (I realize rock’n’roll isn’t all about perfection, but I guess you need vocal discipline all the time)

This thread is about tips about singing. Though it is a little small
Maybe someone could make an Easiest Beatles Songs To Sing thread to have a starting point or something

Don’t we have a thread on easy Beatles songs to sing or something very similar to it?
Edit: After much rummaging around – Easy Beatles Songs.

Listen guys, are you all saying that you actually try to sing The Beatles songs in the same key they sang them? It’s… almost impossible! (At least for me). I have changed the key of Yes, It Is but I still can’t get that high when John sings “I could be happy / With you by my side / If I could forget her / But it’s my pride / Yes it is, yes it is, oh yes it is” (especially the last part). And it’s a song that moves me.
“Forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit” (“Perhaps one day it will be a pleasure to look back on even this”; Virgil, The Aeneid, Book 1, line 203, where Aeneas says this to his men after the shipwreck that put them on the shores of Africa)

Thanks Oudis. I’m not ashamed (maybe I should be!) to admit and reveal how un-Beatlemaniacky I am — I had never heard this song before! Wow, what a great song! Much could be said about it, but for now, I’ll just note I like those echoey guitar effects popping up here and there. As one commenter on the “Songs” thread wrote:
Interesting technique of using volume swells and guitar harmonics creating a sound that is cross between a steel pedal and violin.
I agree with you about John’s voice. I tend to underestimate his singing ability (compared with Paul’s), but he had definite power to his voice that comes out in moments like the refrain you mentioned.

John is a beast. I wish I had a voice like him, in songs like Money and Twist And Shout . Perfect rock’n’roll voice.

What really amazes me about Yes, It Is isn’t just John’s performance, or George’s guitar (both are awesome) but the way they both sing with Paul. The harmonies are… very difficult to analyze, at times I feel they sing almost out of tune, yet they don’t, I don’t know what kind of strange harmony that is. Is it just me or is there anybody else who feels that way about this song? I’d appreciate any comments about this.
Oudis.

I would say the two hardest are probably I’ve Got A Feeling and Oh, Darling!
Paul is a god on those.

For my band, This Boy has by far been the hardest to sing and get right. Those harmonies are just crazy good.
