In Money (That’s What I Want), for the longest time I thought John was singing “Money don’t get everything it’s due, but it don’t get back hand used”. Which I never thought made any sense.
But for the most part I could always hear what the Beatles were saying pretty clearly. I’m sure that’s something that contributed to their popularity.
Compared to Led Zeppelin, where I understood almost nothing Plant was singing. Of course I was usually listening to Page anyway.

Literally thought all my life that the one lyric in Twist And Shout was “let me load up your mind” and I was always like ‘hehe another sex reference’ but no. Today I watched Ferris Bueller with subtitles and I found out that the lyric was not what I thought, and is, in fact, “let me know that your mine,” which is kind of lame compared to my misinterpretation, not gonna lie.
Oh well I’m still singing “let me load up your mind” either way screw it

I always thought the line in Fixing A Hole was “Silly Beatles standing there”
@Getbackintheussr I love it! I can’t stop hearing that now, but I love it.

This may have already been said up-thread about Rock And Roll Music , but even though I knew the right lyrics as a kid, I sang it as “It’s got a black beat you can’t blues it.” Still do sometimes.

Hahaha yes translating from the Plantish is quite difficult sometimes… plus, even when you can understand him, his lyrics are often very cryptic poetry anyway.
Also BeeGee ‘silly Beatles standing there’ is amazing, I’m going to hear it that way from now on.

I know it’s “so we could watch the English sky”, but every time I listen to Well Well Well I swear I hear “so we could watch the English die”.

As noted by some in the ‘Different Beatles Song Every Line’ thread, I for some reason hear the lyrics ‘well the rain exploded with a mighty crash, as we barreled towards the sun’ instead of the correct lyrics ‘as we fell towards the sun’ in the song “Band On The Run “. Despite hearing the song many times, I somehow always get it wrong.

Once your brain hears something a certain way, you’re likely always gonna hear it that way.

Is there a theme of me hearing not-so-nice things in songs John has written or something? Because in “Cry Baby Cry “, I hear “a seance” as “assailants”…

For years, I thought Paul sang “Awesome Californian grass” on Get Back , but it’s “For some Californian grass”.

I’m sure I’ve said this elsewhere here, but I thought “curse Sir Walter Raleigh” in I’m So Tired was “curse the walls around me” for a while

I thought the lyrics to When I’m Sixty-Four were “we shall scream and save”, but it’s actually “we shall scrimp and save”.

I had Revolver on while puttering around in the house this morning. Even know I know the lyrics to Tomorrow Never Knows , I still heard

It is snowing. It is snowing.

I’ve always heard the famous Na-na-na-na in the Hey Jude fadeout as Da-da-da-da. Does that count as a lyric?

That could have been a great idea for Jimmy Buffett, known for his punning titles. He could have done a version about Christmas in Jamaica, called “Tomorrow Never Snows”. It would be fun to rewrite the rest along those lines.
