Until 6 months ago, I always thought it was “I don’t care to march for money” instead of “I don’t care too much for money”. I find that particularly amusing…

I heard “Jai guru deva ohm” as “Jackaroo day of love”
I still sing it that way.

Being a dumb child when I first heard many Beatles songs, I misheard many of the lyrics. So I thought it’d be fun to share some with you all.[…]
I heard “only waiting for this moment to arise” as “only waiting for this moment to arrive” […]
Oops, I’ve actually thought this was the line until I read your post. Thanks for clarifying!
Additionally, I first understood ‘sounds of Arthur’ instead of ‘sounds of laughter’ in Across The Universe which is quite amusing from today’s perspective because I believed it was a reference.

@Martha wow, I didn’t know George’s ‘do had a sound…
And count me in the ‘…waiting for this moment to arrive’ club. This made plenty of sense to nine-year-old me.

Yeah, this made also plenty of sense to *cough* seventeen-year-old me *cough*.
Another rather funny misperception of mine was the line ‘I’m So Tired I haven’t slept a week’ instead of ‘I haven’t slept a wink’ in I’m So Tired . I didn’t know the idiom ‘not sleep a wink’ back then (really great teachers, these four lads – for life as well as for English). Somehow, when I found out it wasn’t ‘haven’t slept a week’ I was slightly disappointed because a week without sleep is a bit more impressing, isn’t it?

[This message was brought to you by your Automated Grammar-Nazi] @Martha Impressive, not impressing but yeah, not sleeping for an entire week would be extremely difficult.
Speaking of sleepy songs, until quite recently I thought that the line in I’m Only Sleeping ‘Keeping a light on the world going by my window’ rather than ‘Keeping an eye‘. Makes sense to me!

I was seven when A Hard Day’s Night came out and I wish I could tell you how I misheard this lyric – I just listened to it again now – but it took years before I understood the line “So why on earth should I moan”. I just filled it in with nonsense syllables.
On the other hand, I was sure I knew these words: TWIST AND CHOW! (TWIST AND CHOW!)

I did this exact same thing when I was little.
Also, not misheard but misunderstood, I thought “She’s got a Ticket To Ride ” meant “She’s got a ticket to go to a place called Ride”

I can still remember my older brothers talking about that one. 1965. Satisfaction was that year, too. Things were misheard and/or misunderstood, but they made for great stories.

Sgt Pepper ‘s edition!
At the end Lovely Rita I first always understood ‘Alla Breve’ instead of ‘I don’t believe it’ which I found rather ironical given that Good Morning Good Morning is next which is definitely not in Alla Breve.
And in Sgt Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band Reprise I initially thought John would say ‘five’ instead of ‘Bye’ when Paul counts in to disturb Paul’s counting order.

I thought it was ‘Leave it’, indicating that they should quit making weird noises now. It wasn’t till quite recently, listening to some sort of backing track of the song, that I realised he says ‘Never believe it’ (I think). My version is funnier, though.
And in Sgt Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band Reprise I initially thought John would say ‘five’ instead of ‘Bye’ when Paul counts in to disturb Paul’s counting order.
Silly Dad informed impressionable nine-year-old me, and I believed for a long time, that he called Paul (or, rather, Faul) a ‘Liar’, because Faul counted four Beatles where there were only three because Paul had died.

While we’re doing Sgt. Pepper misheard lyrics, I have sort of a weird one that I misheard when I was probably around 7 or 8. So in A Day In The Life the line “Now he knows how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall” I misheard as, “Now he knows how many holes it takes to fill the Alc with hol” like as in alcohol. It made sense in my 7 year old mind.

I used to think that Paul was singing ‘I’m Fixing A Hole where the rain gets in / And stops my mind from wondering /Where it will go’. Since the sentence would also make sense like that, I often wonder whether Paul has inserted this double meaning intentionally.

kind of a reversal

^^^ Eh, well technically it would be if the opponent had the same typing as (the Pokémon in the image) Rhyhorn (Ground/Rock), and the move were Fighting type, as it is. Um, otherwise I’m not sure.
