^ It took me a few times to listen to Michelle before I gave up trying to hear what he says and I googled the lyrics…that’s when I discovered that they were in French.

Remembered this taken from songmeanings.net‘s entry for She Said, She Said (and other places)I said
Who put all those things in your hair
Things that make me feel like I’m sad
And you’re making me feel like I’ve never been bornMust have been some serious stuff for John to feel like he’d never been born.
I keep thinking back to this and it just cracks me up.

Noo, I just listened to ‘Michelle ‘ and now I can hear ”sunday monkey” too!
Kind of on topic, I’ve just been reminded by the last post. Does anybody know the lyric in the Beach Boys ‘Good Vibrations’? It goes ”I, love the colourful clothes she wears, and the way the sunlight plays upon her ——”. Is it head or hair? I can’t make it out.

I’m pretty sure it’s “hair.” I think the verse is:
I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair.
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air.
I always used to puzzle over the “gentle word” part. It just sounds to me like he’s saying “murrrr.”

Okay, thanks
It took me some time to hear what he was saying there too. Because I’m English, I often find it hard to understand what Americans are saying when they’re singing.

It’s annoying! Even if you know the original lyrics you keep on hearing ”sunday monkey”

Haha you do, yeah
What makes it worse is that I never heard that before

When I was a young child (maybe 6 or 7) I wasn’t really a big Beatles fan, but my dad was, and he played the song “Day Tripper ” and I heard it as “Day trip up”. My dad played a lot of Beatles (that’s how I became a fan) and once I sang it with him, and I said “Day trip up” then he explained it to me. For 5 years I thought it was Day Trip Up.
It took me sooo long, to found out, but I found out.
EDIT: I also used to think in Eleanor Rigby it was “I look at all the lonely people” not “Ah, look at all the lonely people”. It’s an easy mistake.
I'm coming down fast from miles above you.

Okay, your Day Tripper reference was better than my Something reference.

I made the same mistake with Eleanor Rigby . It’s funny how I can hardly ever come up with some misheard lyrics myself, but when other people point them out with some of them I’m like ”ah yeah, I used to think so as well”

In Polythene Pam , I thought it was “She’s the kind of a girl that makes a musical failure,” not “She’s the kind of a girl that makes the News of the World.” (Those are the correct words, right?)

Yip. For those not in know the News of the World is a now defunct UK tabloid shut down for phone tapping a whole number of people, illegally accessing mobile phones and who knows what else (by the owners not the authorities). Its a good thing its gone im opinion. Awful paper.
