These are my misheard lyrics:

1. In “Strawberry Fields Forever “, I thought John sang “Living this easy way out clothes” instead of “Living is easy with eyes closed”.

2. In “Lovely Rita “, I thought to hear “Wake it’s stark I told your heart to wait” instead of “When it gets dark I tow your heart away”.

Then I don’t remember right now what other lyrics I misheard. I think there are a few more, since my native language is not English.

The first time I heard Taxman , I thought it said “Declare the panties on your eyes” a-hard-days-night-john-6

I also used to think that in Old Brown Shoe , it said something about glue….. You can’t blame for that mondegreen though because their voices are so muffled!!

‘…and when I awoke, I was alone, whispered the fool…’

I’ve been saying that line wrong for ages. It wasn’t until I heard the Anthology version that I heard him say ‘This bird has flown’ and I said ‘Oooohhhhhh….that’s why that’s in the title.” The sad part is I still say the wrong lyric. I’m working on it lol

I didn’t know they were saying ‘Roll up’ on MMT….I have no idea what I used to sing but roll up wasn’t it!

Try to realize it's all within yourself, no one else can make you change....

From She’s A Woman : “I know that she’s no pheasant.” I still sing it by habit when I sing along.

From “Anna” in the last verse”

“Anna, just one more finger…”

Of course I had just entered puberty when I first heard this, so blame it on the hormones.

“Just call on me, and I’m Senator Long…”

It’s not really a misheard lyric, but whenever I think of From Me To You those words pop into my head. I don’t know why – we don’t even have senators in the UK.

I’ll always here that from now on.

I also misheard this lyric, something like “with just her phone”. I had a similar eureka moment.

I told her I didn’t

Joe – how’s your history of America, circa middle 1930’s? Because Senator Huey Long was a popular conservative Senator from Louisiana, who, in 1935 and months before he was going to run for President against Franklin Roosevelt, was shot. No idea why you think that, tho.

Cool story. Is that just common knowledge?

I’d never heard of Huey Long, but it’s a good story.

My friend misheard it as “I was alone, keys by the phone.” Seems it’s a common one!

Unknown – asking me something’s common knowledge is not smart. Merely because I’m not a good measure of common, in any way. I’d say probably not, just because Americans haven’t the greatest historical memories, and I’m probably the only Canadian to know that, so I’d say probably not.

Sorry to offend you, it was kind of a joke because I thought it was funny you knew that.

Just a question to end my post: Don’t two negatives make a positive?

I did always hear i get high in I Want To Hold Your Hand (as many others did), and i first heard that the real lyrics are i can’t hiden when I read about the first meeting of dylan and the beatles, and in One After 909 i always hear koltes eis instead of cold as ice (that’s a german slang word)

C’mon, I’m sure there’s lots of Canadians besides you and myself who are familiar with Huey Long! (Even if I admittedly confused him with his brother Earl, whom was portrayed by Paul Newman in the movie “Blaze”.)

I know – I’m just not used to having a fellow Canadian here to correct my sweeping generalizations.

Recent misheard lyric (stay on topic, kid) with Run For Your Life – not entirely sure I can post it. Involves sex, rather then death.

In Hapiness Is A Warm Gun, I always thought John was saying ‘and cursing the walls around me’, I only found out a short while ago that he’s saying ‘cursing Sir Walter Raleigh’. I now struggle to say the lyrics properly as ‘the walls around me’ is imprinted on my brain. Not good. a-hard-days-night-john-2

That’s In “I’m So Tired .” But yes, it does sound rather like that! Genius line though, quintessential John to curse the tobacco pioneer as a “stupid get” for inadvertently fuelling his late-night cigarette compulsion.
