I Found Out – There ain’t no Jesus gonna come from the sky, now that I found out I know I can cry
Serve Yourself – Well you may believe in devils, and you may believe in lords, but if you don’t go out and serve yourself, lad, ain’t no room service here.
God – I don’t believe in Jesus/Buddha, I just believe in me.
Imagine – Imagine there’s no heaven, it’s easy if you try, no hell below us, above us only sky. Imagine all the people living for today.
Only People in its entirety.
And this quote: You’re just left with yourself all the time, whatever you do anyway. You’ve got to get down to your own God in your own temple. It’s all down to you, mate.

That’s a bit unfair, the whole ‘RRS’ medley is a piece of unmitigated unlistenable never-ending deeply irritating self-pleasing smugly arrogant crap.
Baffles me how ‘RRS’ gets a better press than ‘Wild Life ‘ yet the former contains the god-awful medley, the atrocious ‘Loup’ and a number of other underwritten, overproduced pieces of garbage yet Paul sounds so damn pleased at creating such a disaster. I can listen to the two-disc remastered ‘RRS’ for free and yet cannot bring myself to do so. Aside from ‘My Love’ and ‘Little Lamb Dragonfly’, it’s a horrible album with a hideous album cover.

Personally I only really like Little Lamb Dragonfly and Single Pigeon; My Love bores me to tears and the rest isn’t terribly interesting to me.

I’ll be the one to defend Red Rose Speedway . Yes the Medley is underwhelming, but so many tracks from this album fly under the radar and are really quite good. Big Barn Bed, Single Pigeon, When The Night, are all fully formed songs in vintage Paul style. Of Course My Love is great, however Paul himself was hesitant to release it because it was so sappy. He’s in a great songwriting state here, not taking himself too seriously, however he can’t help but crank out classic love songs. The singles from this era are also top notch. Little Woman Love is one of my favorite Paul songs. I honestly can’t believe this negative reaction.

^All those songs are okay, they just haven’t stuck out to me in my first few listenings of the album — except the two I mentioned, which I love, and My Love, which I absolutely cannot stand.

Good comparisons. John was tough about moving on and living for today, but he sure was nostalgic deep in his soul.

This is a really interesting comparison. In the former one, it’s like John is fed up with the fame of Beatlemania and longs for the moment he can escape it, while in the latter he looks for a similar thing but in his own childhood, before he was famous. I’m not sure he intended that at all, given the obscurity of the lines and different subject matters of the songs, but it’s intriguing to think about anyway.

Just because he didn’t intend it doesn’t make it any less valid a comparison. What he wrote probably did reflect how he was feeling, even if he wasn’t aware/didn’t intend it.

Exactly. I think Help ! and In My Life are good examples of this – they’re positioned in a way so as to be commercial love songs, but you can tell that writing a love song wasn’t John’s intention when penning them, and that that part of it was probably more due to instinct. With one-off lines it becomes less clear cut, but it’s definitely there.

Oh how I want “yesterday” back – let’s go with back to the Beatles in ’65.

It’s most likely been said before, but The Word and All You Need Is Love have remarkably similar themes– The Word is kind of like the prequel, sort of a signpost pointed in the direction the band was heading.
