How about other songs with matching or opposing lyrics, titles or themes?
“I’m Only Sleeping ” and “I’m So Tired “
“You Won’t See Me ” and “I’m Looking Through You “
“I’m A Loser ” and “Help ”

Good point. I just checked it out and it seems a bit disjointed, but you’re right, there is clearly overlap.

While they are similar, that one is a game where you have to say an opposite of whatever the last person says, however people somehow lost the point of the game half way through. This thread is for discussing songs that are opposite or similar or just kinda connect.

I’ve always liked the way these two song combos appear back-to-back (or belly-to-belly) on the same album.

I started a similar thread about two specific songs here. My hypothesis is that after Paul released Let It Be , with the “Mother Mary” bit that, I’m given to understand, irritated John, John replied with Imagine a year later: no, no religion, no Heaven or Hell –the hell with all that. Given that many times they “replied to each other in their songs” (thank you @William Shears Campbell) this might be a valid supposition.
“Forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit” (“Perhaps one day it will be a pleasure to look back on even this”; Virgil, The Aeneid, Book 1, line 203, where Aeneas says this to his men after the shipwreck that put them on the shores of Africa)

But Let It Be is not a religious song. When Paul says “mother Mary” he’s literally referring to his mother whose name was Mary, and I’m sure John was aware of this. And why do you think it would irritate John that Paul wrote a song about his mother? John wrote a couple songs about his own mother.

No no, @Little Piggy Dragonguy, I simply thought that “Mother Mary” was a religious reference. I stand corrected.

This is a really cool observation, Ahhh Girl. I imagine that John Lennon , being such a practitioner of clever wordplay, would keep notebooks full of phrases that either he thought up, overheard, or mis-overheard. (I keep notebooks of these types of phrases.) That’s very interesting that two consecutively running songs would contain basically the same phrase. I’d like to think that if John was ever asked about this, that he would laugh and say “Now, how did that get by ‘quality control?’ Ya know, once I use these phrases in a song, I’ve got to start crossing them out, because I tend to forget and then I might use them again.”

Here’s one I thought about this morning…again listening to Driving Rain . I like the album.
Your Loving Flame seems to be a grown up version of Tell Me Why
Both songs are about a guy want to know what has gone wrong in a relationship and want to make it right because they really love the girl and want to be with her forever.

The similarity between The Girl Is Mine and You Want Her Too is pretty staggering. The two collaboraters with Paul (Michel and Costello) have the exact same theme for their two songs.
(I hope this is the right thread to denote the similarities.)
