There is something rather sad about this 1974 drug-fuelled/wrecked session being the last occasion we get to hear these two giants who shook the world performing together. Sometimes I find the session incredibly funny, and other times just tragic as it makes you wonder what would have happened if they’d got together without the coke and found themselves remembering who they were at their best.
Imagine what could have been if they’d found themselves in the studio creating magic again!

I adore George’s guitar solo on the BBC takes, sounds scratchy, scorching and angry – the way it begins!! Its not like that on the Everly Brothers recording tho so i wonder if George picked it up from another cover or if he came up with it himself.

I’ve always felt it was George’s take on Little Richard‘s piano. I certainly feel their version owes more to Richard’s than the Everlys.

The performance is very much Little Richard’s but even the solo there doesn’t sound much like what George’s plays to my ears. Gotta be honest and say i always think of it being more an Everly Brothers song simply down to Brian Matthew’s spoken intro – it’s what always comes to mind when i hear that song.
