I love how ‘too muchah’ this song is.
Does anyone know why this verse
Nice to have the time
To take this opportunity
Time for me to look at you
And you to Look At Me
was cut out of the album mix?

The length was deemed too long, it was 8+ minutes, and George decided to omit that verse and a bit more and fade the ending. Is that not in ‘Yellow Submarine ‘, if so it’s not like it never got out?

George’s songwriting for Yellow Submarine was so damn clever. In this song and Its Only A Northern Song all of his lyrics are very meta, as if he’s making a mockery out of the music making process at this time, which comes across quite clearly on Northern Song.

It is, I just wondered. I suppose it is somewhat weaker than the other verses.
The production on this is gloriously overwhelming.

I agree @Beatlebug . It’s so nice to see them really go crazy in the studio, make the song a bit longer than normal and just let their hair down in general. I adore the melody of this song and also the guitar playing, whoever it is played by.

I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

New to the group. I’m going to be a conspiracy theorist about the intro guitar feedback on this song.
Previous posts have discussed the possibility that John or Paul “knew how to make feedback” and either of them could have played that bit (probably John).
The guitar part that starts this song is unlike anything any of them ever did before or since.
On the other hand, Jimi Hendrix routinely made those kinds of sounds, and George and Paul saw him play around the time they were recording this song.
“So, Jimi – loved the show. Would you like to come by the studio and hang out or jam a bit?”

Definitely “blonde,” @50yearslate. It’s a quote from the Merseys song Sorrow, later covered by Bowie:

I looked up what is being said at the beginning of It’s All Too Much . I found a website that says it is a clip of George saying “I’m Irish!” played backwards. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it seems plausible.
Love one another.

@To Jorma I have to say, I always heard the beginning as ‘Sue your ma’.

No, I would venture to say that was different — that was a serious argument about who did what with sides making cases, whereas this is just personal interpretations of a weird snippet that no one actually presumes to understand.
Yes, I over-analyse everything.

Huh. Now I’m actually pretty curious to know who said what at the beginning there.
Possibilities:
– To your mother
– Sue your ma
– To Jorma
– I’m Irish (backwards)
– Mother effer
Anything else?
