While listening to PPM which has one of my least fav Beatles songs, “Ask Me Why “, I listened while ignoring the singing and melody.  The instument track is wonderful!

Are there any songs where you have noticed something like this?

Yes – In My Life . I had a speaker failure a while back and hearing it without vocals showed up just how wonderful the backing track is.

I haven't noticed that about Ask Me Why though – I'll give it a listen. It's great to have these songs in stereo at last.

Get the instrumental version of I Feel Fine (bootlegged – ahem) and appreciate Ringo's drumming and the guitar playing all round – it's superb stuff.

My sister has an issue with her ipod that when you plug into her sound system, it will only play one side of the stereo unless you press on the little connecting thingie. So when she plays For No One , you only hear the vocals, which actually makes the song sadder to me. With Yellow Submarine , you only hear the instrumental part which is kind of fun because becomes Beatles karaoke.

The Eleanor Rigby strings are mind-blowing. I recently got into all the Anthology albums, and listening to the strings on their own is a masterpiece in itself! Gorgeous, gorgeous composing Mr. Martin, well done.

Tongue, lose thy light. Moon, take thy flight… see ya, George!

Alissa – What did you think of Within You Without You instrumental? I found it pretty relaxing so I added it to my study playlist. Eleanor Rigby strings is on it too, if only to have a small break of drama.

Wasn't Within You Without You only added to Anthology as George vetoed Carnival Of Light and they were short of material to include? It might be the reason for Eleanor Rigby too, I'm not sure.

Heh. 😀 I looked up Within You With Out You in Wikipedia and it referenced this site. Otherwise google is failing me. They're probably saving Carnival Of Light for a big anniversary.

They do seem like filler, but I enjoy them. Great for ringtones too.

the backing vocals of Michelle – just wonderful! they remind me a little bit of the way the swingle singers set up their a cappella harmonies:

I love George's acoustic guitar playing in 'I'll Be Back'. It is so beautiful.

He always had a knack of playing just a few fill in notes against John's rhythm guitar that were so perfect.

The further one travels, the less one knows

Sun King and most of Revolver (excluding Yellow Submarine ) are my favourites instrumentally, aside from the ones that are in your face like Revolution and Helter Skelter .

I told her I didn’t

Wouldn't it be funny if “Carnival Of Light ” was all a big prank? Like if it was 15 minutes of silence played backwards or something.

If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.
