Despite the dubious sound quality and loud audiences at time, most of the live concerts can be real fun to hear as the Beatles are often amusing themselves even if the performances themselves weren’t top notch.
Posted above but link dead so a replacement. One of my favourite ever Beatles performances due to how screwed up Paul is with the lyrics. John of all people gives Paul the correct first verse only for Paul to launch into the second. Second verse comes to where it should be and Paul gets it all wrong; Ringo’s look of joy is great. Third verse Paul also gets wrong!! All four are clearly not bothered and simply enjoy themselves. I’d far rather take this than a spotless live rendition which is dull and to the note.

I have been a fan of this song since the first time I heard it. I always felt like Paul was trying to write his own version of Long Tall Sally .

Yeah, i’ve read before that I’m Down was basically Paul’s attempt at a Little Richard song. You can hear it particularly in the verses.
I think Long Tall Sally is better as a song but I guess it’s hard to top Little Richard!

I prefer I’m Down , mainly due to the organ and i think that Paul’s vocal performance was better on this song and it’s original with a great guitar solo by George.

When performed live at their best ‘Long Tall Sally ‘ is far better. Some of the live versions of ‘LTS’ are, quite possibly, the hottest performances the Beatles gave, which, when considering the standard of the Beatles live career, is quite a statement.

Actually when you think of it, Long Tall Sally is a live performance in a sense because it was done in one take with no overdubs.
Anyways, I wonder why John used the Vox Continental instead of a Hammond as he usually would’ve.

I think Paul did a good job at writing a song like Long Tall Sally while also being original as it would have been easy for him to just rip it off.
I like both songs. I think the studio version of I’m Down is better than Long Tall Sally but live I would have to give to Long Tall Sally but I’m Down looked like it went down well live as well.
