Early years John, when he was really engaged with the Beatles, had the most amazing voice. I can’t imagine anyone else taking songs like I Want To Hold Your Hand and making them what they are. Early Beatles were truly a force of nature that shook up the world and forced everyone to pay attention.

Maybe that’s a case of Billboard-vs.-Cashbox charts, similar to the “Please Please Me ” situation in the UK?
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

John held this one is high regard right to the end. The nostalgia of their initial breakthrough would’ve factored in too I think.

I’ve heard this song about 40,000 times yet only a few days ago I realised there is a trademark Beatle “wwwwwoooo” hidden within.
Pesky Beatles.

It was 60 years ago today that this song reached #1 in the US.
And none of its energy has been diminished. What a song.

Why is the recent ‘Red+’ mix so naff? There is a session outtake where Paul instructs Ringo to attack the opening and then not so loud on the second, which they did, yet for some dopey reason all the energy has been sucked away and Giles has left it meh. ‘IWTHYH’ was never meh, it knocked you out when it started.
Then again the drums throughout Giles new dullness are so crap sounding. One to throw in the bin.

I really don’t understand why Giles Martin is held in such high regard chiefy for being George Martin’s son, any more than James McCartney or Julian Lennon do for being their own fathers’ sons

‘And I Love Her ‘ sounds nice and warm on ‘Red+’. There’s a positive. But Giles is no more than a glorified fan mixer who makes a hell of a lot of mistakes.

Got to agree. Being a blood relative means next to nothing in this instance. His father was in the studio during the recording of the Beatles songs, not him.

I really don’t get the whole remix fetish at all.
Because everything has to be new and shiny. And Apple love money and shoving out a box at £150 each makes them a lot of money with little risk.

I coud only understand it if the only intention would be to fix those horrible stereo hard panned original mixes and nothing else. Once you start taming dynamics and being creative it doesn’t interest me anymore (and should be punished as a criminal act) whether you’re the son of George Martin or not.
