Still some debate over whether September or October 1962 (so, whichever, Ringo on drums), @Old Soak, it comes from a recording of the group rehearsing at the Cavern after a lunchtime session. The tape’s been circulating for a some years now, and also includes a couple of runs each at One After 909 and Catswalk.
The full 12 and a half + minutes:

Since I am new here, I am deciding I want to start going through every Beatles song and posting my thoughts. I am an aspiring writer, and so I am going to use this as a writing exercise to write one mini song review per day. Starting at I Saw Her Standing There and going in release order. I am gonna give myself a minimum word count of 150 and a maximum of 250.
Also, I love cover songs, and so I am going to also include my favorite cover of each song in question. I hope people enjoy this, I love writing about music.
Song 1/213: I Saw Her Standing There
This is easily one of the best songs on Please Please Me . I’d probably call it my 2nd favorite. The vocals are fantastic; I love Paul’s lead as well as John’s backing harmonies on the chorus. They both just have so much energy, it’s incredible. It’s such a great debut for their first song on their first album. It immediately tells you who the 1962-1964 Beatles were, even if they’d mature past that eventually.
I also love how simple yet fun the song is lyrically. The best lyric is “My heart went boom,” it’s just such a succinct and charming way of establishing teenage nervousness. I think the vibe of the song clearly makes the PoV character also a teenager, it sounds like a school dance. That’s why I have never understood why anyone gets upset over the “She was just 17” lyric. Instrumentally I feel like this song might have the band’s best performance on their first album. Ringo does amazing on drums, and the bassline is one of the best from their early years.
Score: 8/10.
My favorite cover of the song: I Saw Him Standing There by the Supremes.

An interesting approach @Queen Emily, all the best for your project.
I’m sure there is a Buddy Holly song with his heart going boom but I’m pretty sure it was often used back in the days of such songs.
