I wonder regarding all the Paul fans out there, how many like him because he is still alive. If he had passed away many years ago and John was still alive, would he still be as popular.
It's a bit of both. Because John died first, he's seen by the general public as the genius, and also the maverick who took loads of drugs, was horrible to his friends and abandoned his wife and son for an evil hag. Paul, contrastingly, is seen as the lovely one, who wrote sweet love songs, had a devoted relationship with an animal rights activist, and was the only reason John stayed sane, though he isn't thought to be as talented or experimental. McCartney's been able to hush up some of the nastier bits of Beatles history, such as his treatment of George, or Frankie Schwartz, or the bits that put him a bad light, like his request to have Let It Be changed after telling Spector it was fine and clearing it for production. I think if Paul had died first, he'd be remembered as the Beatles who cheated on his girlfriend, brought his new flame into the studio, married a groupie, took loads of drugs, was horrible to his friends and was argumentative and obtuse, but also the first Beatle to embrace the avant-garde and wrote some ground breaking songs. Lennon, contrastingly, would be a devout lover of a peace protestor who wrote shallow songs, and a great father to Sean (though I don't think his treatment of Julian would be overlooked).
I agree. Personally, I don't think any of them were angels but my problem is that after reading most of the threads on this site and I am new to this site since Christmas time, that I get the feeling that, though it isn't said, that The Beatles were Paul's backup band. That Paul did everything and the others just sat around and followed him. I respect John and George for not wanting to play on the Beatle thing and developing their own new sound as solo artists were I feel Paul wanted to keep the Beatle thing going.
I remember in 1974, someone asked George if he was going to be Beatle George during his Dark Horse tour and he replied that “if you want to hear Beatle George or the Beatles than go and see Wings.”

I disagree that all the people in here are Paul fans rather than Beatle fans. Maybe because he's on tour and we saw him live we're on a Paul's kick. But that doesn't mean (or at least me) think the Beatles as Paul's back up band.

So, let's say it's too sentimental. And the thing is, they're good, but I don't like The Beach Boys . As I say, my mind works in weird ways.

But I have a question : What's the name to describe those armonies? I mean, Beach boys can be said “surf rock”. I'd like to know and learn, and to me, you're a walking musical enciclopedia.
Thank you Von!
Thanks yourself, Mith!
I have a bit of knowledge, but I'm hardly an encyclopedia – if I was, I wouldn't be surprised and delighted by the Mexican music Youtube videos you post from time to time. Anyways, Beach boys harmonies are generally called just that – “Beach Boys harmonies”. Or occasionally “doo wop harmonies” although they aren't quite the same.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Interesting topic, I don't think anyone on this site sees the Beatles as Paul's backup band especially considering how defensive most McCartney fans on this site get, which would make me think that there is more of a John bias on the site. I also don't understand why it always has to be one or the other, the Beatles wouldn't have been the Beatles without all four, so since Paul was an incredibly important part of the four he deserves a lot of credit for what they were able to achieve. I suppose it took me the longest to come around to Paul's stuff just because it's so vastly different from John's, but once I got over the “Paul is the cute one” notion, I've been able to really enjoy his stuff and now he has some of my all time favorite songs like Blackbird , Two of Us, Martha My Dear , etc.

Great synopsis. I like the part about once you got over the “Paul is the cute one” comment. That is what is hard for me. I feel sometimes that if I get really into him again than my friends and people who know me will think I love the current pop music scene which I do not. I have always tried to be sophisticated. Paul used to be my favorite but when I listen to some of his songs, it is a struggle for me because of some of his lyrics and I get embarrassed singing them. What is interesting is that I have more of his songs than any other artist in my iTunes and I have almost 16,000 songs. I guess deep inside I still love his music. I suppose I am a George and Paul fan.

To lead a better life,
I need my love to be here.
Here
Making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there.
There
Running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking but she doesn't know he's there.
I want her everywhere
and if she's beside me I know I need never care.
But to love her is to need her
Everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
each one believing that love never dies
watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there.
I want her everywhere
and if she's beside me I know I need never care.
But to love her is to need her.
Everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
each one believing that love never dies
watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there.
I will be there, and everywhere.
It's a smashing song.
I told her I didn’t

It's a melody that flows flawlessly, and it exhibits Paul's natural gift for melody. I love the intro to the song and the harmonies. I love the way how the 3 words of the title are distributed for each verse of the song “Here” … “There” and “Everywhere” and then it all comes together at the end… If John Lennon 's words are to go by, I'd say it's one of the best. He said in his 1980 interview for Playboy that it is one of his favorites of all Beatles songs.
But it's cool if some people don't like it. To each his own, always.

Paul has repeatedly said it's his favourite Beatle song……even more so than Yesterday , although that's the one he's most proud off….obviously
"If we feel our heads starting to swell.....we just look at Ringo!"

And I still can't stand it.
Honestly, I think that this is one of those songs (like “Run For Your Life ” or “Why Don't We Do it in the Road?”) that I just don't like.
If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.

It's not the best on Revolver , but it's a nice ballad. I like Got To Get You Into My Life better.

When I first heard of the Beatles, my favorite was Paul–because little girls find cute boys cute. And then, as time progressed, George became, and probably always will be my second favorite. It's his sense of humor that got me :^) For the longest time, I tried my hardest to not like Paul because he ditched me in concert three times :^| But as time went on, John started to become my favorite, well, because he's hot, talented, and hilarious. Anyway, now, I can't decide on which one I like. I think they're all my favorite.
But anyway, I think this is my favorite McCartney song on Revolver after “For No One “.
I salute the lady who screamed "I love you Paul!" at a tribute band's concert.

I Want To Tell You is a pretty nice song too. I especially like the way it fades in. One of George's better songs in my opinion.
