…It’s just that I’ve never seen anyone rank Good Morning Good Morning as their #1 …
I didn’t see this at first. Kudos to Holsety for that! There are certain Beatles songs that nobody ever picks as their favorites, not even close to a top 25, but which I would firmly put up there, if there weren’t so damn many good songs to wedge them into.
To me, the following are sorely underrated, because people think they’re just throwaway songs maybe, but to me they are strokes of brilliance:
Good Morning, Good Morning
Faded flowers, wait in a jar, till the evening is complete... complete... complete... complete...

I expected this forum to be full of intelligent and informed insight re. the Beatles.
But I was mislead!
It’s full of the most unscholarly drivel one can imagine.
It is mostly on the level of a bunch of 14 year old girls still living in 1963 and hysterically discussing in the playground who is their favourite member of the band .
The so-called musicology forum is laughable!
And I don’t like being greeting with the word ‘Howdy’

Dude, there are 2363 different threads here! Do a bit of searching and if you find a topic that interests you enough, go ahead and revive it. Or start a worthwhile thread of your own. See if you can raise the level of the discourse around here. Failing that, there’s no point in further wasting your time around here, is there?
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Who said this is supposed to be a “scholarly” forum? The more “scholarly” stuff, at any rate, may be found in the other parts of this website outside the forum, which can be navigated by the tabs on the masthead. One of them, for example, is called “Songs”, and many of those articles have comments threads attached to them wherein one may find discussions more… focused and technical (if not “scholarly” sniff, sniff).
Oh, and by the by Vhaal: you misspelled the preterite form of mislead. It should be misled. Not very scholarly of you, eh wot?

Several of us enjoy discussing our favorite member of the band, true. But I guarantee that you could have an intelligent Beatles-related conversation with almost any poster on the forum. I’m perfectly willing to join a “scholarly” conversation, if you or anyone else wishes to start one.
And, like Funny Paper said, check the articles’ comments for the type of conversations you’re looking for.
