All right I may sound crazy and out of my mind, (not that I’m not already but, anyway) I’m going to try and attempt (key word attempt,) making a list of my top 100 Beatles songs. . I need some help elimanating some songs, I checkmarked the list of songs (including Anthology stuff, without covers) I thought I would want, and I had 117. Could there be a trick to emilinating? Should I do it 1 to 100 or 100 to 1, its all so confuseing. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to meditate.

Yeah, I can’t partake in something like this. How do you judge “Strawberry Fields Forever ” against “If I Fell “? Or “Hello Goodbye ” against “Taxman “?
Like FP said, they’re like my kids. I love them all for all their quirks and idiosyncrasies, and they’re all perfect. To try to argue that “I’m Only Sleeping ” is somehow superior to “Hey Bulldog ” is like multiplying zeroes.
E is for 'Ergent'.

I’m afraid I have similiar problems to our friends above, I also couldn’t disqualify the covers. How could things like Twist And Shout and Long Tall Sally not make the Top 100?
However, not to be wholly negative, were you interested, could I make a suggestion? Ask people to contribute their top thirty, or their top fifty songs that they performed (you can’t get down to versions, that would be too confusing – single version against album version, original against Anthology – in my opinion) in no particular order, and then add up how many times songs appear in those various lists. You may end up with joint #99s, #47s or #1s, but it would be the most honest reflection. And if people were just offering their favourite so-many, those who may struggle to join in because they couldn’t choose their #1 might be more comfortable contributing.
I know I would, so long as covers are allowed.

You can’t include your 117 Beatles in the Blood! Disagree with Egroeg there. You decide you want entries of Top 50s or Top 30s or whatever, you have to brutal and bring your list down to that as well.

I like your list, Beatles in the Blood (is there something you don’t mind being called for short?). I will offer my Top 50 in the next day or two, depending on how my current illness plays out. I’m sleeping lots at the moment. Mine will be a straight alphabetical, with a cover a two. Anything in my list gets one point, anything in your list gets 1 point, and as more people add their Top 50s, we build to a hundred that will be constantly changing because, hopefully, people will always want to add their choice, and you may just have created one of the greatest and longest lasting threads in the forum. After all, the Top 50 is going to be different for everyone. Are their released covers allowed?

I like you’re idea mja. I originally just wanted people to help me with some advice on how to do one for myself. But this is WAY cooler. Yes I will now allow covers released or unreleased (as long as their from Anthology or BBC). To sum it up, Anything that went on to official release that aren’t takes of studio album tracks.
P.S just call me by my first name, Sam.

Can I have, for example, both While My Guitar Gently Weeps and While My Guitar Gently Weeps from the Anthology on my list?

Glad you like the idea, Sam. I’ll help you keep track of the numbers if you want. Remember, as people join in, something at a 101 could quickly find itself at 99. This will be an ongoing thing which I will happily help with keeping track of – but also remember, the basic idea is yours. How could we tell what should be in your 100? But you’ve pointed the way to something that the forum hasn’t had, and you’re the boss…

Does the Abbey Road Medley count? (Probably not… )
And you’re right, mja- I don’t know why somebody hasn’t had this idea yet. I’m glad Sam started it.

No, sorry. Hope that didn’t disappoint you too much, I hate doing that.
Here, I’ll make a direction guide right here.
So, each poster will make their top 50. Making sense so far, then with the glad to help mja, me and him will keep track of the numbers. Say, In my Life had 78 people having it in the top 50, that would make it number one because no other song had as many places in the top 50. Another rule is that you can only use songs from official releases so you can use songs from Live At The BBC , and Anthology series, IF the songs that you use are the ones that were first released on that. But you could chose the version you prefer and put it next to the song. Outtakes and covers are allowed also.
EDIT: The Abbey Road Medley will not be an excuse to have more songs, their separate.
Please tell me if this makes sense I’d be happy to improve.
P.S. Glad you like the idea Ilove George (gasp I just gave away you’re secret!) It means a lot more than most would think, but I’m not getting into my personal life on the web.

I’m still a little confused about the Anthology thing- for example, I know you said I couldn’t put both versions, so could I omit the White Album version and put only the Anthology version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps ?

A vote for “While My Guitar Gently Weeps ” is a vote for “While My Guitar Gently Weeps “, the version won’t be specified in the overall list, just the song. But Sam, could I point out that “Child Of Nature ” (a short fragment maybe) was released on the “Fly on the Wall” disc of “Let It Be … Naked”. “Because I Love You So” from that disc is in my Top 50! Is it not allowed?
EDIT: Oh, and you’re the pioneer of this whole Top 100 made up from forum members. I got the idea from you of what was possible, and like Egroeg said, why’s nobody thought of this idea?
Sleep! I need Sleep! Maybe late night, early hours for you. It’s 5:12am for me and I am ill. My last comment of the night!

Yes! When mja and I make the tallys we would just put the one with the most marks on it. Thanks for a solution.

Crap, forgot about Fly on the Wall, I’ll allow it just because of the two songs you mentioned above. I’ll edit my directions. And boy do I hate it when I post things while other poster are posting. I just told Egeorge that he could list it as the anthology or album version because I thought it was a good idea. Well you did tell me I’m the boss and I’m sure you won’t mind. Also, Why do I have a feeling Mja, Egeorge and I are going to be the only ones doing this.
