Hi everyone. I’m looking for a McCartney quote from the last few years about Get Back , saying how he doesn’t really rate it as a song because it’s quite basic, wasn’t as inspired as some of his other songs, but he still performs it live because people like it and want to hear it. Something like “Some songs are just work songs, and that’s one of them”.Does this ring a bell for anyone? I know I read it somewhere but I can’t for the life of me lay my hands on it. Any help appreciated! It might have been in What’s That You’re Doing on his website, but I couldn’t find it. It’s not in the Got Back Tour programme interview or The Lyrics.
Ummm, related, maybe https://www.the-paulmccartney-…..ngles-box/
Sometimes though, it’s difficult to see whether you’ve made a single or not. Particularly with ‘Get Back ’, as it had arrived out of a jam I didn’t think, ‘Wow, I did a spectacular job in writing this’. I just thought it was okay, and that the recording was good. I remember I played it for Twiggy, and she went crazy saying, ‘This is great, it’s got to be the single!’
A few times I’ve got lucky, and when I’ve been writing a song, I could just tell it was a good one. Sometimes those ones come very quickly – there it is, you’ve written it, and it becomes the single. And because it arrived so luckily and quickly and positively, you just go, ‘Oh right, this is a good one’. Except for ‘Get Back ’. I didn’t notice!

Ooh, that’s pretty close. It’s not the one I was thinking of, but Paul does tend to repeat himself in interviews so it tracks that he’d have said it around the time of the Singles Box. Thanks!
