[Chorus]
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind her tears
Cried For No One
A love that should have lasted years[Chorus]
[Chorus]
“For No One “
vs.
“Yesterday ”
[Verse 1]
Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they’re here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday[Verse 2]
Suddenly
I’m not half the man I used to be
There’s a shadow hanging over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly[Verse 3]
Why she had to go
I don’t know, she wouldn’t say
I said something wrong
Now I long for yesterday[Verse 4]
Yesterday
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday[Verse 3]
Why she had to go
I don’t know, she wouldn’t say
I said something wrong
Now I long for yesterday[Verse 4]
Yesterday
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday
How do you think these two songs compare, does anyone prefer “For No One ” to “Yesterday “? Thematically I’ve always looked at “For No One ” as a prequel to “Yesterday ” but because of the different song format it feels like “For No One ” is more in-depth, where “Yesterday ” touches the surface of the most immediate thoughts “For No One ” dives a bit deeper into introspection

I like For No One better. I still like Yesterday but I like the instrumentation better on For No One .

Yesterday is over played for me and I never go searching for it to play it so I would pick For No One over Yesterday unless it comes on in a playlist on it’s own.
As far as song wise I still like For No One because it is like the song is speaking to the listener and it involves that person where as Yesterday is more a story time from Paul about a sad time. Both are great songs from the Beatles and two different years though!

I like For No One better, too. I like Yesterday about as much as John liked it, and for similar reasons as well

For No One seems to be the majority vote… I’ll go with the majority
It just isn’t as obvious, it’s more subtle and clever to me. Particularly the second-person POV. Plus the French horn is nice.

I love ’em both. I like the lyrics to For No One better, though; they’re more thought out I think.

Personally, For No One is definitely my favorite. Yesterday is pretty good too, but overall, For No One takes the cake

Wow interesting topic.
My favorite is yesterday because I love strings in a song. (OMG WE HAVE NEW SMILEYS)
I have to confess I have never paid attention to For No One lyrics (shame on you Mith) but now I have, it’s really amazing!
I have a question. Did Paul write For No One after breaking up with Jane Asher? Because it feels very very personal. Whereas Yesterday was the result of not writing a song named Scrambled eggs.
Don’t get me wrong, yesterday has the most heartbreaking lyrics ever. Who hasn’t cried after listening the “Why she had to go?”. I have. But Pauil sings with more feeling For one one than Yesterday IMHO.

I like both of them but For No One gets my vote.
Well written lyrics plus the french horn solo win it for me.

For No One ! It’s a bit of an underrated song which makes it nice and fresh to the ears upon listening.

For No One definitely. it’s a weirdly underrated track amongst the public for some reason. The instrumentation/lyrics are brilliant throughout(I probably prefer it to Here, There And Everywhere as well).
Thinking about it now the lyrical themes of both songs are actually pretty similar. For No One just sounds a lot more advanced and mature then Yesterday .

I like both songs, there are very few Paul songs I don’t like. But I have to say that I’d pick Yesterday over For No One .

I think “Yesterday ” is technically the “better” of the two but I’d rather listen to “For No One .”

Yesterday is a perfect song to me. The lyrics, the melody, the strings all do exactly what you want them to do. I think it’s the sort of song that couldn’t do anything but become a classic.
But I prefer For No One . Simply because it nails that melancholy feeling, especially with that erm I want to say French horn? Solo.

BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.
