What do you think is the best line out of a song? One that you don’t really need the context of the rest of the song to appreciate it. Or also, if you want, just any Beatle quote, even if it’s not in a song.
“Anyway, there is one thing I have learned and that is not to dress uncomfortably, in styles which hurt: winklepicker shoes that cripple your feet and tight pants that squash your balls. Indian clothes are better.” - George Harrison

Some of my favorite Beatle lyrics are those that are abstract thoughts, such as “…Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall”… “…the movement you need is on your shoulder”… and “What do you see when you turn out the light? I can’t tell you but I know it’s mine”…. I imagine that these kind of lyrics come about as the songwriters filled in the existing melody lines with nonsense syllables, just to block out the scansion, and these were some of the semi-funny “keepers” from that process.

The one that always comes to mind – “that’s a lie” from No Reply . Listen to that and you know that the singer is not one for letting the girl mess him about and ditch him. Its such a controlled delivery but with so much intent and threat contained. A mad psycho if ever there was one.
All Beatles songs are about peace and love. Puh-lease. Only if you also mean the kind of love where the lass is getting out a restraining order and moving into witness protection for a few years.

“Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see. It’s getting hard to be someone, but it all works out..” is the first one that comes to mind. It is such a powerful sentence that arises a million emotions in me at the same time.
Another one that has always stricken me, is: “..Doesn’t have a point of view, knows not where he’s going to. Isn’t he a bit like you and me?..” A very romantic, and yet realistic thought. Just like me.
“Try thinking more, if just for your own sake…” is one among many lines of George’s that’s impressed me. Come to think of it, I can’t remember a single lyric of his that I can’t connect to. Long, Long, Long always gets to me, as does Something and Here Comes The Sun , and I Need You , and almost everything else, really. His lyrics as well as his melodies feel very personal, a certain level which of it which seems perfect. All Things Must Pass , and “Beware of sadness. It can hit you. It will hurt you. Make you sore and what is more, that is not what you are here for..”
“Life is very short and there’s no time for fussing and fighting, my friend.”
“It getting better all the time, (it can’t get no worse)..”
The entirety of All You Need Is Love .
And of course, there’s the legendary “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”

I mean, I can connect with a lot of Beatles songs, especially in my current situation. What You’re Doing and The Long And Winding Road , both the quintessential unrequited love songs, really speak to me.
However, my favourite lyricist in the Beatles, and I’m sure you may agree, isn’t the main songwriters, oddly enough. It isn’t Lennon/McCartney. I know he never had much of a chance to write songs, but all of them speak to me on a personal level. I absolutely love his way of putting things: “You were in a car crash and you lost your hair”; “We would shout and swim about”. Really eloquent; it’s a shame he didn’t write more songs.

Here’s another clever line that probably came about as John was searching for words, as he was scat-singing his existing melody for “Cry Baby Cry :” “The Duke was having problems with a message at the local bird and bee”… The local bird and bee!?! What a colorful phrase!

I thought about moving this topic into a similar one (https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..-grab-you/) but the “fragments” thread is for music and/or lyrics.
This one, started by Molly Jones is specific to lyrics only…not that anyone asked.
Welcome, Molly.
I can’t say this is my favorite quote, but it is one I sing quite often to Zag when she is spot on about something – “She’s not a girl who misses much”.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.
