A few bits of Beatles music used to scare me as a child….Am I alone?
The “Ohs” at the beginning of Thank You Girl were the worst. Still gives me goose bumps.
The high pitched “Is there anything I can do?” ending the middle 8 of Tell Me Why
All of Wild Honey Pie .
They were one scary band
The Beatles are English - They have influences from all over - but they are English

Revolution 9 used to weird me out (for obvious reasons), but I’m pretty desensitized to it by this point.

As I’ve written before, the squeaking chair toward the end of the piano fade-out in ‘A Day In The Life ‘ completely freaked me out the first time I heard it. Even though I was listening through headphones and the floor underneath the carpet was a concrete slab and not hardwood, I swore someone was creeping up behind me. To a small degree, it brings back that feeling every time I hear it.

Even worse, when you play it forwards, you can hear Yoko talking about becoming naked!

For me the Beatles started breaking out the creepy on Tomorrow Never Knows and Sgt Peppers. Peppers itself teeters on the edge between elation and paranoia. Lovely Rita drops you in it with no warning after a harmless-sounding ditty, it’s no accident that Love’s mashup of Mr Kite and IWYSSH is just frightening, and the GMGM-Reprise-A Day In The Life trio has always been a spooky run.
On the subject of that mashup, Helter Skelter still has some of the creepiest broken guitars in it under Paul McCreepy brokenness. Not a song to play with the lights out. Cry Baby Cry is a damaged nursery rhyme in which McCreepy adds a fun coda, it’s no wonder Revolution 9 is after that. I’ve come over all funny now

That’s funny considering they animated the song for the cartoon.

Did you ever fall asleep to Sgt. Pepper and wake up to the alarm clock sound in A Day In The Life ?

I fell asleep listening to Anthology 3 . Thought What’s The New Mary Jane was the most beautiful song ever written. Then I woke up. Oddly, I still have a fondness for the opening piano refrain.

Can I use that phrase? It sounds wonderfully British. I collect Englishisms. And before you ask, of course I’m a weird person. Why else would I be here?
I’m never frightened by the Beatles’ music– in fact, it has the opposite effect on me. Even the mad psychedelic stuff. But the end of “Long Long Long” used to give me the shivers when I was younger, so much younger than today. I realise now it’s a lot of Indian drums and some Harrisonics, but to my nine-year-old self it sounded like the creaking timbers of a ship falling over, a ghost/banshee wailing, and rattling bones. >>>>—————>
Yeeeees…. I do have a vivid imagination… just see my “The Person Above Me” posts.

I love that ending its very ambient to me. But even more I love Ringo’s ba-dum chopping off the last wistful guitar chord. I tend to imitate that when changing the topic of conversation “Ba-dum!” Don’t make me ba-dum! I’m sorry, I’m going to have to ba-dum you there! Ba-dum! Ok, that’s not spooky that’s just annoying

Don’t be afraid. Take that good song and make it better. Or worse, if you like, but who cares? You’re a Beatles fan, and it’s perfectly within your rights to sing along to “Till There Was You “.
