So the answer to the error hasnt been given? I thought Ahh Girl posted it.
In regards to errors i’ve seen far far worse over the last few weeks in regards to reported Beatle stories, that one Parlance linked to is still my favourite what with Yoko taking drugs at Esher with husband John, George and his wife Pattie in 1965. More errors than truths in that article.

I was filling in the gaps, @meanmistermustard.
The central claim of the article was that it was their seventh number one in a twelve month period. @Beatlebug provided 6 number ones. I added the one she’d missed, and gave the dates they’d reached the top of the Billboard chart.
For them to have seven number ones in a twelve month period, they would have needed it to be in January 1965, not March. As SG pointed out in her first post on the subject, which was why I said she was in the ballpark, Eight Days A Week was released in the US two weeks after the anniversary of their first number one – something she unfortunately failed to connect. Still Brownie points though! She was seeing it, and missing it, at the same time.

So…the big error is that the definition of “one year” was exaggerated by a couple of months? Damn, after all that buildup I was hoping for some big howler of an error (like that one mmm linked to!)

@vonbontee I’m afraid I think it is a bigger howler. The Daily Mail is known for its “journalism”, and is known for inaccurately portraying the private lives of celebrities. I think an article claiming a record exists that doesn’t, and that is easily checkable, is far much more of a howler than The Daily Mail rewriting history to fit its own agenda.
I have always found The Daily Mail among the most disreputable of the bad press we have in the UK, but I doubt even would write an article about a record that doesn’t exist. Shoddy journalism, yes; objectionable morals, yes; an article built on supposedly quoting the record books, I’ve never seen them do that.

@Ron Nasty, where do you get that the story was from the Daily Mail? What am I missing? I see that it is from mprnews (Minnesota Public Radio)?

OK haha, I was TOTALLY baffled by this, wondering which nonexistent record you meant – only record I saw mentioned in the article was 8DAW itself, and that one surely exists! Then I re-read it…
And @Ahhh Girl , Ron only mentioned the Daily Mail as a reference point for shoddy journalism, not to attribute the article to them. (Bloody article seems to have turned some of us into semi-literates!)

Listening to this song now and OH MY GOSH, I had forgotten how much I LOVE it.
It’s so Beatleful; it’s just fizzing with Beatley chemistry. If I were to pick one song that epitomised that catchy, infectious early Beatles sound, this would be it. (I’m very happy that my BBBirthday is on the same day as this song was released as a single in the US.)

If we did have an eight day a week calendar, what would the months be called?

And what does your query have to do with The Beatles song, @Starr Shine?? I’ve just listened twice to check, nothing mentioned about renaming months. Surely more pertinent would be what the eighth day would be called?

Cause for Eight Days A Week to be a thing, the whole calender would be changed.
And the day has been dubbed sitar day from what I’ve seen on the forum but the months remain a mystery.

I believe it’s Beatleday. Beatday is when you read Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs et al.

So uhh talking about the actual song here, the key melodic motif that hits you is the contrapuntal play between the vocals and the bass, which is some very tasty walking style bass loping along to a swinging beat. Is that Mr Irrepressible Paul? No, it’s John! What a twist! And another twist, that faded-in cute mini-riff of the verse that tops and tails the song, which is actually the only thing close to a solo too. The reason it was faded in is that it’s actually the outro, edited in weeks later to end the song. As Lewisohn says, the whole song was unfinished and worked on in the studio, what’s interesting is how much of a joint effort it is as a song, and how tidy the result is.
If you all take out your circles of fifths diagrams you can see how tightly related the chords are (original in D major), and the Beatles were getting clever at suggesting minor notes: Hold me, love me from the solitary relative minor to the relative major instead of the relative minor (Bm to G instead of Em then Bm to E), and this is further sold with the minor harmony vocals on top. I think the daring part of the song though is the middle eight, dropping down to a literal pause over that lovely bluesy harmony (so very John), suddenly we’re in a very different mode, serious and intimate, but then the harmony builds up to a climax and we’re back to the happy bouncy Pauly groove. It’s a very Lennon-McCartney piece. Now if this were a conventional song, you’d have a verse pattern with a solo here, and then another chorus or so. Not the Beatles, they repeat the 2nd verse and choose to repeat the title refrain to set up the solo/end. And they’re out of there in 2:50ish. Perfect single, not a wasted hook. Not bad for something they thought of as a second-best effort to I Feel Fine .

I should start an eighth day name poll since there are lots of options for the day name.

Well, the French words for the days of the week match up pretty closely to the name of the solar system’s planets ‘n things…Lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi = Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus. So howbout Plutoday or good old Earthday?

But the rest of the days are named after Norse gods, @Von Bontee.
We haven’t examined whether there might be an eighth Norse god who could make a good day name.
How about Bragiday, named after the Norse god of poetry, music and the harp, Bragi?
Or maybe Baldurday, from Baldur, Norse god of beauty, innocence, peace and rebirth?
Why change to French when there’s plenty of good Norse gods left to fill the eighth day name gap?
