I heard Dear Prudence for the first time not long ago on one of those All Beatles internet radio stations and I liked it. I’m surprised it’s not more well known.

More new faces!
If you like Dear Prudence , take a moment to read how that song came about. The sublime drumming you hear on the track is actually all Paul, as Ringo had quit the band for a short time at this point.

Dear Prudence is a beautiful song by John Lennon and is just another example of how (in my opinion) some of the less commercial Beatles songs were the best. It was written while The Beatles were journeying to Rishikesh, India to visit the Maharishi. It was about Mia Farrow’s younger sister Prudence, who locked herself away and isolated herself from the rest of the people on the trip to go into deep states of meditation, against the advice of the Maharishi. For a more detailed description @melaniehiscock, read The Beatles Bible article on Dear Prudence . This website is just so helpful! Here is the link: https://www.beatlesbible.com/s…..-prudence/.

I adore Dear Prudence . Paul performs a brilliant drum track as well as bass, George’s guitar is amazing as usual, and John’s lyrics are stunning. It’s a masterpiece, IMO, yet it’s not even my favourite. Just goes to show the overall song quality, eh?

I always forget how much I love Dear Prudence until I hear it again, it’s so pretty. I had actually had the story for it wrong, I was getting it confused with the way it was used on the movie Across The Universe and with something I read online a long time ago that probably wasn’t true. Oh well, now I know!

Hey there – welcome aboard. Not one of my favourite Beatles tracks, it’s one of my “don’t mind it” ones – but kind of pleasant.

@dr-winston-oboogie When you type a song title it automatically links to the song on the main site, new feature! So to save you trouble in the future keep that I’m mind so you don’t have to look for the link and copy it.
As for the song, it’s great, as it is with all Beatles songs. The bass line is probably my favorite part.

I really like Dear Prudence . I think a lot of the non-single White Album songs can get glossed over easily. To me those are the gems on the album – Martha My Dear , Everybody’s got something to hide except for me and my Monkey, Sexy Sadie , and last but not least, I’m So Tired (a personal favorite of mine, and a probably future karaoke number .
The one thing I think Dear Prudence could do without is the repeat of John talking in the background about Mia’s sister “going insane.” I think one time would have been enough.

Thank you for the warm welcome.
I’m the same Melanie Hiscock who was in Grange Hill.
I now work as an independent singer and entertainer in obscurity.
My avatar is a picture of me from Grange Hill. The school dance episode. One of the few times i got to be close to glitz and glam as a teenager. Albeit glitz and glam on a 1989 meagre BBC budget.

That’s just in the Kinfauns demo though, right at the end. And they didn’t even intend for it to be heard in public.

If you are referring to the song, I do love it. I love that whole album.
If you are referring to Dear Prudence Farrow, I don’t know her well enough to form an opinion.

The reason it wasn’t known enough, is simply because The Beatles just have too many damn good songs, and like mentioned above, since it wasn’t released as a single, it became a nice Gem to discover. Perfect competition to Pauls “I Will “.
I can see why they constantly get new fans every decade, as there are soo many gems to be discovered by new generations of fans

@melaniehiscock
I grew up watching Grange Hill (was born in the very early 80’s so i would have been watching in 1989), loved that show on the BBC and the theme tune remains brilliant. Was far better than so many of todays soaps with some great storylines and acting. How dramas should be.
So to have someone who was in it on here is really quite something.
I just wanted to derail the whole thread by saying hi.

What is this about – is there something in the (multilayered) background of “Dear Prudence ” which I’ve never heard??
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.
