Might as well rank them all:
Day Tripper / We Can Work It Out
Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane
I Want To Hold Your Hand / This Boy
Yellow Submarine / Eleanor Rigby
Ballad Of John & Yoko / Old Brown Shoe
Hello, Goodbye / I Am The Walrus
Lady Madonna / Inner Light
All You Need Is Love / Baby, You’re A Rich Man
A Hard Days Night / Things We Said Today
Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You
Let It Be / You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)
Can’t Buy My Love / You Can’t Do That

That’s interesting, you’re one of the few Beatles fans I’ve met who prefer early Beatles. The only other is my neighbour, whose husband went to school with Paul and George! Off topic but he witnessed the famous incident of George’s dad punching the teacher and also recalls Paul sneaking off from lessons to go and play music.
Looking back I have no idea where I got this from My neighbour did go to school with Paul, was in the same classes and actually still has a school photo with both of them in it, but I can’t see why he would’ve witnessed the George incident given that George was a year younger. I’ll have to ask him again once the lockdown is lifted.

lovelyritametermaid, Dingle LadI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

My mom, my aunt’s and my oldest uncle. He once told me that the moment he heard Sgt. Pepper he knew the Beatles left him behind. He absolutely loved the first BBC collection when it came out.

Hey Jude /Revolution is their greatest single. I Want To Hold Your Hand /This Boy is a close second.
Out of these two options, though, I have to go with SFF/PL. There’s something truly magical about both songs and especially them together as a single. I think they compliment each other perfectly.

I’d have to go with Paperback Writer /Rain . I think as a two side record, it has the best two songs compared to the rest of the singles.
And if I had to choose between the two proposed, I’d go with Strawberry Fields Forever /Penny Lane . Something is not one of my favourites, and I’m actually glad there are many who shared my opinion on Something on this thread. Usually it’s me against everybody else when it comes to that song.

I like it, but I don’t think it’s in the same class as SFF.
As to the original question, I think Hey Jude /Revolution is their best single. Hey Jude was their biggest hit, and Revolution is woefully underrated IMO.
But of the two choices given, I’ll take SFF/Penny Lane . It’s even a concept single!

At some point Billboard changed their rules, and the Something /Come Together single became #1.

IMAO*– Hey Jude /Revolution is the best single undoubtedly in my mind. 1) Hey Jude was/is highly successful as well as a gorgeously composed and executed song in its itself that touched the hearts of millions of people to this day (both Beatles fans and non-Beatles fans) 2) Revolution is an awesome rocker that’s just wonderful
Out of the options in the title– I’d pick Something .

That’s why they’re on the 1 album. The single made #4 in Britain.

I think Hey Jude / Revolution is definitely their greatest single. From the ones in the title, I’d go with Come Together / Something just in terms of personal preference but I echo @Little Piggy Dragonguy that SFF / PL go together extremely well. However, I think CT / S are more comparable in quality while the gap between SFF and PL is a bit wider.

It’s not a canonical single, but Capitol’s “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”/”I Saw Her Standing There ” pairing may be my favourite, depending on how badly I need to rock. At the least, it’s my favourite back-to-back matchup of fast rocknrollers; my favourite Parlo singles are probably Strawberry/PennyLane and Day Tripper /Work it Out, and only one of those four amazing songs is danceable.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

after it had been out three weeks or so. Hey Jude took about a month after release to hit number one. It looks like the song that was kicking the Beatles ass was Wedding Bell Blues by the Fifth Dimension. It’s a great Pop song
