Why has no mentioned the magnificent Don’t Let Me Down yet?
One of their greatest love songs, and one of the greatest love songs John ever wrote.

I forget Johns Bless You. A stunning love message to Yoko during the Lost Weekend. One of the best songs not only in Johns catalogue but in the whole Beatles work. And the outtakes are superior to the version on Walls And Bridges .

I don’t automatically think of DLMD as a love song because, I suppose, of it’s style and edge. It’s only when I really listen to the lyrics that I feel how he’s singing to his love.
I love ‘And I Love Her ‘. One of the first Beatles songs I heard, and still one I listen to often. It’s beautiful.

My favorite Beatles song of romance is ‘Something ‘.
My favorite post-Beatles song of romance is John’s ‘Out Of The Blue ‘. Paul’s ‘Calico Skies’ is a close second. They both feature lines with similar sentiments:
OOTB: I was born just to get to you
CS: It was written that I would love you from the moment I opened my eyes
Those lines get to me every time.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

The best is Here, There And Everywhere , in my opinion. It’s such a beautiful song. Other favorites are I Will , I’ve Just Seen A Face , Something , and From Me To You .
Favorite post-Beatles love song is Calico Skies.

No seriously, I like Jealous guy.
Apart from the beautiful melody, what I like about it is that, although it is a love song, it is not soppy. It has an edge to it. A lot of love songs paint a blissful idyllic picture which isn’t true to real life but jealous guy is more touching to me because it recognises that life isn’t perfect and we all fall short at times and that human relationships are never ideal so it is more believable and comes across as more sincere. Also, Jealous Guy is really well performed. John’s singing is terrific and although Phil Spector has a lot of critics (me among them) he does the business here – the production is spot on.

Yeah, I think you’re right there. It’s a love song but it’s also self-critical. It’s always made me cry, even before I knew who sang it… I love it, though.
