Overlooked for years at last I appreciate this early song……..For it’s riffs. Drums ‘riffs’ harmonica riffs……Dramatic guitar riffs the whole bleeding caboodle…Come together in this early ditty.
The Lads first Orbison impression wasn’t right……..George Martin sent them off with some homework to do. They handed this in next day! A+
Now like Dionne Warwick’s ‘Walk on By’ you cannot change this song in any other way to make it better.

Two of Us has a catchy little riff much like Here Comes The Sun
Come Together is awesome because the Paul plays the sky scraping bass riff at the same time that John plays a simple blues lick…
The best part of the Day Tripper riff is they know everyone’s thinking “why are the Beatles spoofing Satisfaction by the Stones?!” so they have the lyrics start out with “gotta good reason for taking the easy way out” which just sort of said “we’re the Beatles and we do whatever the you-know-what we want so if you thought your riff was cool we’re gonna show you a real rocking riff while singing about getting all the satisfaction we want by using drugs in the middle of the day!” That was my take anyway, who knows what it actually meant.

I guess it’s more a lick than a riff, but that really catchy bit near the end of Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey , where the bass and the guitar play the same thing… That’s definitely one of my favourites. But there are so many incredible Beatles riffs, it’s hard to say which I like best.

For future reference I decided to make a list of all their riffs I could think of. And by riffs I’m meaning short repeated phrases like that of Day Tripper .
Day Tripper , Paperback Writer , What You’re Doing
Birthday , Everybody’s Got, Eight Days A Week
You Can’t Do That , Ticket To Ride , I Feel Fine
And Your Bird, Hello Goodbye , In My Life
Getting Better , I’ve Got A Feeling , Revolution
I Want You, Helter Skelter , Hey Bulldog
If you can think of any others then please post them.
As for a ranking:
1. Paperback Writer 2. What You’re Doing 3. Ticket To Ride
4. Hey Bulldog 5. Day Tripper 6. And Your Bird
7. I Want You 8. Everybody’s Got 9. I Feel Fine

I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Clapton uses the Day Tripper riff in What I’d Say off of John Mayall’s album Bluesbreakers.
Steven Stills flashes it on the Buffalo Springfield song Baby Don’t Scold Me, which was excluded from the stereo release after the inclusion of the single For What It’s Worth on the remixed stereo debut.
So yeah, Day Tripper is probably the most genius and iconic riff in The Beatles’ catalog.
I love I Feel Fine and In My Life as well.

Other places the “Day Tripper ” riff shows up: Roxy Music’s “Remake/Remodel” (bassist plays it once near the end, when every bandmember takes a 2-bar solo), Yes’ cover of “Every Little Thing ” (guitar plays it once just before the vocal begins) and April Wine’s “I Like To Rock” (simultaneous with two other guitars playing the Stones’ “Satisfaction” and the “I Like To Rock” riff itself)
