I’m going to answer these two two-year-old posts.

A performance of When I’m 64 might be on the cavern tape that Paul bought a number of years back that has never seen the light of day airing or release wise. Someone here might know more of what was on that recording.

The songs that were on the tape were this:

_ Hey Baby

_ If You Gotta Make a Fool Of Somebody

_ Hippy Hippy Shake

_ Please Mr. Postman

_ Roll Over Beethoven

_ Ask Me Why

_ Sharing You

_ Your Feets Too Big

_ Words Of Love

_ Till There Was You

_ Dizzy Miss Lizzie

_ I Forgot To Remember To Forget

_ Matchbox (vocal: Pete Best)

_ Shimmy Shake

_ Young Blood

_ Dream Baby

Isn’t the essence of Dig It that it is a live performance, and nothing else?

Well, live in the studio.

I seem to find the idea of this forum so interesting because it’s always so incredible to see members from this historic band bring out a song from their dusty shelves and onto a live stage.  Following Paul’s addition of ‘Another Girl ‘ sparks interest to see him do a few more new ones.   Paul, if you ever read this, please consider…

Several songs that I would really like to see McCartney perform with his great band would be:

-‘And Your Bird Can Sing

-‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer

-‘Rocky Racoon’

-‘Sun King ‘/’Mean Mr. Mustard/”Polytheme Pam’…

-‘Why Don’t We Do It in the Road’

-‘When I’m Sixty Four’

Ringo Starr would likely give a nice orchestrated rendition of “Goodnight” and could really take his show in a different direction by giving a psychadelic title-penned performance of “Tomorrow Never Knows .”

I have a lot of respect for Harrison for including his lesser known but historic songs like “Piggies “, “I Want To Tell You ,” and “Old Brown Shoe ” in his Japan tour.  His more acclaimed songs like ‘Here Comes The Sun ,’ ‘Something ‘, and ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps ‘ provided many of his solo performances with a lot of excitement.  John Lennon rarely performed Beatles songs, or at all for that matter, but I find his infamous live performance of ‘Come Together ‘ and those several group renditions of the hard rock/blues number ‘Yer Blues ‘ to be great footage of rock and roll history.  Although I would have liked to seen some footage of John Lennon rocking a crowd with numbers like “I want you (She’s So Heavy),” “Happiness Is A Warm Gun ,” and “I Am The Walrus ,” I had always admired his protest rock stages and willingness to give himself a different reputation without manifesting in his past success.

All of the following songs are those that were absent from setlists from the individual Beatles or together sets:

  1. All I’ve Got To Do
  2. And Your Bird Can Sing
  3. Any Time At All
  4. Baby You’re A Rich Man
  5. Because
  6. Blue Jay Way
  7. Christmas Time Is Here Again
  8. Cry Baby Cry
  9. Dear Prudence
  10. Dig It
  11. Doctor Robert
  12. Don’t Bother Me
  13. Every Little Thing
  14. Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
  15. Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby
  16. Flying
  17. Free As A Bird
  18. Girl
  19. Glass Onion
  20. Good Morning Good Morning
  21. Good Night
  22. Happiness Is A Warm Gun
  23. Hello Little Girl
  24. Hey Bulldog
  25. Hold Me Tight
  26. Honey Pie
  27. I Am The Walrus
  28. I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party
  29. I Me Mine
  30. I Need You
  31. I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
  32. I’ll Be Back
  33. I’ll Cry Instead
  34. I’m Only Sleeping
  35. I’m So Tired
  36. If You’ve Got Trouble
  37. It’s All Too Much
  38. It’s Only Love
  39. Like Dreamers Do
  40. Little Child
  41. Long, Long, Long
  42. Love You To
  43. Martha My Dear
  44. Mean Mr. Mustard
  45. No Reply
  46. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
  47. Oh! Darling
  48. Only a Northern Song
  49. Polythene Pam
  50. Real Love
  51. Revolution 1
  52. Revolution 9
  53. Rocky Raccoon
  54. Run For Your Life
  55. Sexy Sadie
  56. She Said She Said
  57. Sun King
  58. Tell Me What You See
  59. Tell Me Why
  60. The Ballad of John and Yoko
  61. The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill
  62. The Inner Light
  63. Think For Yourself
  64. Tomorrow Never Knows
  65. Wait
  66. What You’re Doing
  67. What’s The New Mary Jane
  68. When I Get Home
  69. Wild Honey Pie
  70. Within You Without You
  71. Yes It Is
  72. You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)
  73. You Know What To Do
  74. You Like Me Too Much
  75. You’re Gonna Lose That Girl

Exceptions:

Done in McCartney’s poetry readings:

  1. Maxwell’s Silver Hammer
  2. Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?

Up for an unrecorded debate:

  1. Bad Boy
  2. When I’m 64

Performed only by an offspring:

  1. It Won’t Be Long
  2. Julia
  3. Savoy Truffle
  4. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away

Performed by another singing artist accompanied by either one of the Beatles or one of their sons:

  1. Across The Universe (Rufus Wainwright with Sean Lennon)
  2. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Elton John with John Lennon )
  3. Rain (Pearl Jam with Dhani Harrison)

I would love to see #13 Every Little Thing done live!

I saw someone holding up a Rocky Raccoon poster at the McCartney concert in Dallas. Unless that was you a-hard-days-night-john-3, someone else would like to see that one live also.

One correction to the list

The performance from Shea Stadium is on Anthology 2.

Hello Little Girl ‘ was played during the early days tho we dont have them playing a live recording of it.

As much as I adore Paul, I don’t think he can pull off Every Little Thing (the song people, the song!) anymore. Those top notes would probably be too difficult to reach now. There definitely are some tunes on that list he should still be able to sing, though.

If Paul was to come up with a completely new setlist, what would you have him sing? (Or should this be a separate topic?)

You beat me to Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby , @meanmistermustard. Work on the poll is slowing my response times.

I was also going to include the Paris version, followed by George and Carl Perkins from 1988:

A thought struck me while watching that performance of Please Please Me , and watching the audience reaction from total joy to almost heartbreak, is how the audience atmosphere changes when he brings up the memory of John. Ever since he had trouble ending Give Peace A Chance back in 1990. Part of me wonders how galling that still is.

I don’t understand your comment. How did he “have trouble ending Give Peace A Chance ” – he looked like, at worst, he was joyously surprised at the reaction, and at best, it was rehearsed. Why would it be galling?

When I saw Paul in 2013 the audience reaction to his John tribute seemed perfectly appropriate and expected, and not at all “surpassing” our reaction to Paul’s songs. It’s probbly obvious but I I just don’t get it 🙂

Half of what I say is meaningless...

I feel good in a special way, I'm in love and it's a sunny day

Was “Any Time At All ” ever performed Live?

Pretty dang knowledgeable 50-year fan here, but I don’t think this was in the set list for the first US tour…or otherwise then… was it ever done live?

Tragic if that’s the case.
