When i first had the ‘A Hard Day’s Night ‘ album this was the song of the album for me, I played the whole of side one just to get to listen to ‘Any Time At All ‘, occasionally i would rewind to the beginning of side two to play it again (sacrilege as that was cheating – albums should be played all the way thru!!). From that thumping drum thwack opening i was all in and Paul’s “Any Time At All ” response took me well past the point of decency. The song, like so many on the album, grabs you by your ear hairs and hurls you thru the air into the next track which does the same until you end on ‘I’ll Be Back ‘ by which point you are knackered.
Note: when i got the bootleg ‘Anthology 2000‘ i was amazed to find there was a different mix of this and i would play that over and over as well.

You may like how my list is turning out!
Although I don’t want to say anything (else) until I’ve finished the list and posted it.

I was going to make my usual flip comment about all I had to do to get to the “Any Time At All ” track was to lift the needle, but @Joe’s post caused me to go back and look at his summary of the AHDN album. What a nice piece of writing that is! It is rich in detail, thoroughly researched and citated, but it is also entertaining and tight. Sometimes when you are totally engaged in Forum discussions, you can forget about the marvelous job @Joe has done with the rest of the site.

Joe, Ahhh GirlI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

That’s the plan… As soon as I’m done the list. And I already have a nice bit written about this song, although there are enough songs I haven’t placed yet to bump it off the list.

This and Tell Me Why were the two songs off AHDN that really gripped me the first time I heard it. It’s a fantastic song.

Ooh, this one’s my favorite on AHDN . I actually love the solo. Come to think of it, I love everything about this song!

This Lennon song Any Time At All sealed me as a Beatles fan and as a John Lennon fan as well for all time, and as a result of hearing this song I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. I never get tired of listening to this Lennon rocker and it’s too bad The Beatles didn’t do this live. (though most of the tribute bands did that honor!) I do hope Julian and/or Sean Lennon visit this song. (Julian did his dad’s It Won’t Be Long and Sean did some others.)
This counts as my favorite song from The Beatles as a group and my favorite song from John Lennon as a musician, Beatle or solo!

What I love about Any Time At All is not just the obvious energy, but the tenderness. “If the sun has faded away, I’ll try to make it shine, there is nothing I won’t do” is my favourite line from the song. These gentle moments make John’s passionate “Any Time At All ” refrains a lot more believable and powerful.

Something weirdly (and appropriarely) timeless and overwrought about the piano parts, especially that solo. A very beautiful and mildly unsettling recording, indeed.
I love it when a thread revival inspires me to give a relisten!

This song is really great. So much energy. It’s up there with AHDN in terms of capturing the excitement of Beatlemania musically.

I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

The energy the song has, with John’s forceful statement of anytime at all, merging in to tender moments like “If the sun has faded away, I’ll try to make it shine” are simply magical. One of my favourites from A Hard Day’s Night, for sure.

I also enjoy this song a lot. The only thing i dislike is Paul’s part … I think it lacks John’s energy and sound a bit muffled to me.
I like to listen to it in the A Hard Day’s Night album followed by “I’ll Cry Instead ” because the pair well (imho) .
