When John sings “It’s easy” in this song, especially the first time, he doesn’t sound convincing at all. It sounds like he wanted to sing it likes he means it, but then someone who knows him better than that walks into the sound booth, and when he sees the person, he chokes up on the words.
Hum, I just got to thinking: maybe it is his inner self that doesn’t believe that it is easy and, therefore, he just can’t get the words to come out convincingly.

One of the worst things musically you can put yourself thru is George playing the violin on this track – its the equivalent of the child of your best friend scratching away at performance night. If compared together with Paul’s torture of the trumpet in ‘Only A Northern Song ‘ George is the “winner” in being much worse.

Exactly George could play the violin as well as I can play guitar
For those you who haven’t heard it before when listening to the proper song, the odd twangs you hear every 3 seconds or so are George “playing” the violin and whatever that monstrosity is about 1 minute is…

Hello
I’m having a beatles party and want to recreate the ‘All You Need Is Love ‘ posters that the beatles hold with ‘All You Need Is Love ‘ in different languages. Unfortunately, I can’t find a picture that show all the posters clearly. I speak french, german and english so i can work those out but could anyone tell me the full translation for the spanish one? Thanks.

In the picture RN posted, the last sentence is the Spanish one, though, it’s missing one word (necesitas) which I guess is in the poster that says “all”. The full translation would be “Lo que necesitas es amor”.

That’s the thing, Merch. I don’t believe there was a fifth poster, don’t think I’ve ever seen one. Four Beatles, four posters, inexact translation.
EDIT: Oops! I see the fifth is behind them! “All – Tout” just visible. No-one ever wears it though! That’s what I meant! Honest, guv!

Always wanted to hear this isolated, thanks. I think complaining about the ineptitude of George on violin (or Paul on trumpet, for that matter) is kinda beside the point – they’d barely picked up those instruments before, after all! I appreciate the experimentalism and what-the-hell-ism that went into the decision to include them in the track. There’s a tiny little thrill in knowing that these little bits of anti-music are nicely hidden away in a pretty good song (like the “tit-tits” in “Girl”) that became a huge hit and captured the spirit of the era. Plus, I love that double-stop bit at the minute mark! Reminds me of the droning viola stuff that John Cale was doing with the Velvet Underground around the same time. Also enjoy those fast tremelos near the end, although I can’t tell if those are George or one of the orchestral musicians.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Surely if a musician picks up an instrument and plays it out of this world badly in a song which gets released its worthy of comment and complaint whether its his first time or not.
George’s violin part is one of those that you never hear until you do and then you cant unhear.

Fortunately, the really bad bits (which are plenty) are buried in the (non-isolated) mix enough that I can’t hear them anyways, so there’s no need to unhear. And yet even with all his fumbling around, George still manages to stumble across the occasional lick that, to my ears, makes a nice addition to the sound spectrum.
I just think that if the Beatles deliberately record themselves on instruments they can’t play, then capturing their incompetence on tape is part of the point – which makes the successful realization of the recording an artistic success, in that they achieved what they set out to. Whether the results have any musical value is another matter entirely, more a matter of opinion. You (and ASJr) say they have none; I say they have very little.

I really like George’s dirt-terrible “violin playing”. Yes it’s dirt-terrible, but I appreciate the effort. I played violin for about four months, and it’s $%^& not easy; he does a fair job on that, really, considering. I can’t imagine the song without it.

Don’t know why anyone has to run and hide. Its all opinion and life can be boring and annoying enough without having someone shouting “BUT MINE IS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!” everywhere.
Tho i’m i’m pretty sure i’m always right when it comes to anything and everything even if (when?) the evidence doesn’t support me.

George’s violin bit is pretty terrible. Then again the song seems to be made up of a few “good” parts to carry the tune mixed in with random haphazard sounds throughout the entire length of the track. It’s bad, but it works.
Love the randomness. “Greensleeves” to “In The Mood” to “She Loves You ” in the coda!

I think the song is made by its message – the instrumental arrangement is virtually irrelevant. who can argue with it’s point…even get sick of hearing it the 24th time in a row (or however many times its said). i love the verse: “There’s nothing you can make that can’t be made, No one you can save that can’t be saved, Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time, It’s easy”. The way he sings it, the bold lyrics in eighth notes, rapidly but in perfect time (they are eighths, right?). John (and Paul) had such versatile voices.
Doesn’t Ron Wood play a brass instrument on this – I couldn’t see him in b&w but I swear I’ve seen him on the color version.

Listed on the Guitar World 100 Worst Guitar Solos was George’s from ‘All You Need Is Love ‘.

Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
GUITARIST: George HarrisonThe shortest and most uptight solo of George’s Beatles career, with a jarringly abrupt ending. Maybe John Lennon realized it was only going to get worse and pulled the plug on him.
I’ve heard similar comments from others in the past, no idea why as I really like how its short, to the point and doesn’t intrude on the song itself. Its in the video below from 1:23 to 1:30.
