If I was asked what Beatle song I would take to a desert island, it would be All My Loving . It just edges out Eight Days A Week , Penny Lane and Eleanor Rigby for me.

Some may wonder why a later and perhaps more sophisticated song isn’t my choice, and I think I can clear that up. For those around at the beginning of The Beatles’ breakthrough, certain songs had a colossal impact and All My Loving was pure gold for me, probably from just one hearing.

I still like to see Paul and his band performing it today – and yes, singing and playing that bass line would have been a no-go area for many – but not Paul.

My desert island would be rocking.

You could build your own record player from what you find on the island.

The desert island scenario comes from here in case those outside the UK haven’t heard of it. From Wikipedia:

Desert Island Discs is a biographical and factual radio programme, broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It was first broadcast on the BBC Home Service on 29 January 1942 and celebrated its 70th anniversary in early 2012.

Each week a distinguished guest (“castaway”) is asked to choose eight pieces of music, a book and a luxury item that they would take if they were to be cast away on a desert island, whilst discussing their lives and the reasons for their choices. It was devised and originally presented by Roy Plomley. Since 2006, the show has been presented by Kirsty Young.

More than 3,000 episodes have been recorded, though the number of castaways is slightly smaller, as a handful of castaways have appeared more than once.

If the idea hasn’t already been done, perhaps we could have our own desert island discs thread where posters are asked to choose the eight Beatle songs that they would take to a desert island?

I think people could use this thread https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..sland-disc for that purpose. They could choose 8 Beatles songs and 6 other songs (Beatles or another artist) to make up the 14 song disc proposed by the OP in that thread.

Sooooo many to chose from, but for some reason “Hello Goodbye ” seems to come to my mind as a keeper.  But, Tomorrow it might be “In My Life ” or something else…..

Gave With The Beatles a first-in-a-longlonglong-time listen not too long ago and when this one came on, I couldn’t restrain a teenage Beatlemaniac squeal. Then I got up and boogied to the whole two minutes six seconds of it. beatlemaniacs_02_gif

I’ve never really got the adoration of the song. Same as with ‘Don’t Bother Me ‘ its just there; comes, goes and passes without much too appeal.

While DBM is nothing special, (give George a break, it was his first song  that he ever fully-wrote 😛 ) I have a thing for AML. I think it’s because it’s such a cute song and it has that ooey-gooey romantic quality that makes ASJ weak at the knees.

Whenever I hear it, I always remember the scene in the hated-by-nearly-ever-person-on-this-forum-but-which-ASJ-secretly-has-a-thing-for-which-she-blames-on-the-wonderful-Jim-Sturgess-being-in-it musical film Across The Universe .

I think it would work great in a regular musical, it has this great cutesy feel to it.

Celebrate with me lads! a-hard-days-night-ringo-15

I finally managed to get Little Girl to sing the higher harmony in the third verse for me, I’ve been trying to convince her to not be shy and just sing it for ages, and this evening she finally did! YESSSSS!  beatlemaniacs_02_gif

Great.  Now get her to sing the highs in Tell Me Why at the 1:33 mark!

A-ha, I found this thread!

I just felt like voicing my undying love for this song. It’s so sweet and sentimental, ahhhhhh…beatlemaniacs_02_gif I would say more, but honestly that’s all I have to say.

Definitely my favorite Beatles song heart

A great colourisation of their performance of this song from the Morecambe and Wise Show has been uploaded to YT by Kitsu Beatles on their channel (done with the help of Alex Alonso). Filmed at ATV’s Elstree Studio Centre on 2 December 1963, it wasn’t broadcast until 18 April 1964.

Who knows how long it will stay up? Looks fantastic though.

As the technology to do such things becomes more available, amateurs are often outdoing the professionals on getting it right.

The Kitsu Beatles channel is uploading some good stuff at the minute, they were also behind the upgraded Rishikesh footage I posted elsewhere a few days ago, and so is well worth a look and keeping track of to see what’s next.

A lot more innocent time. Pure Beatles escapism. And very poignant when you know where it played on December 8, 1980.
