Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
And calls me on and on Across The Universe
Such a great lyric.

What was the source of this limitless undying love that John felt and wrote about? Or were they just words?

Just words, I guess. He did have images of broken light dancing before him like a million eyes as well.

I think Yoko may be the source

On the way home from the train station this evening, it was absolutely freezing (8C – don’t judge me I’m Australian) and there was also a freezing southerly wind (straight up from the Antarctic). It had begun to rain slightly, and by the time I got home, it was raining fairly heavily?
And did I mind?
No. Because this song had come on via shuffle – a song I like, but not love. And it put me in a sense of euphoria, I got pins and needles – everything seemed to make sense etc… an incredible experience!
Thanks John…

Awesome. I know what you mean. I appreciate the sky, sun, rain and wind a lot more mostly through John/Beatles lyrics. I’m not religious but this stuff makes me feel connected with nature. Oh My Love especially.

I skipped across the road listening to Any Road, today. I regretted it once I stopped- forgot about the knee. However for those 10 seconds, it was glorious.
ATU is a gorgeous song, it was my bitch of an ex-friend’s favourite Beatles song.

In another forum I was talking about the different versions of Across The Universe and listening to all of them, I have to admit, it’s not that easy to differentiate between them because most of them are based on the same take.
I like the ethereal sound by Phil Spector on the album version, but to me, it is a bit too slow, you can hear it has been slowed down.
The WWF/Past Masters version is the one I am most used to. It is faster, but I think the tempo is quite right, it emphasises both the guitar and the vocals. I also love the bird sounds and the backing vocals, and yeah, that’s how I know the song best.
Naked is cool, acceptably reduced, but again a bit too slow for the way I’m used to the song.
Anthology Take 2 has the beautiful sitar as an ornamentation, similar to Norwegian Wood . It’s the best one, the most interesting one instrumental-wise but Lennons vocal take, which is different to take 7 of all the others, is suboptimal. He sounds like he’s out of breath at times, and as if he hasn’t figured out yet how to sing this thing.
The one on the 50th anniversary White Album whatever is good, but doesn’t really stand out among the other three million versions.
Hums Wild came highly recommended, but to me, the weird guitar effects are as inappropriate for the song as it gets.
This means the Past Masters release is actually my favourite, but the very best would be the Anthology version with the vocals of take 7.

The Spector version speed-corrected is really nice, the orchestration sounds a lot better as well.
There is also a remix by Glyn Johns (out there on bootleg) which strips out most of the female screeching (it’s very low in the mix) leaving the basic track, that’s probably the one that does it for me. The female vocals make the song worse in my opinion.

Mmm is right that Lizzie Bravo and Gayleen Pease are not great singers, and their performances are kinda shrill. But I like the idea of the boys beginning to open up their studio sessions beginning in 1966 with the YS session…

Is there any decent fan mix of this song out there? Because all the officially released versions don’t make it for me and i really like this song.
