It is probably from the 2009 stereo remaster. All of the youtube videos are restorations of music videos for the 1+ box set.

The audio isn’t available alone, @QuarryMan, but the video is included on the second DVD/Blu-Ray of last year’s 1+.
The audio is easy to rip using Audacity, should you want to.

Can you support why you believe this. I personally think that it was John and Paul taking turns because if you listen closely, there are multiple ahhhs, not just a single one, so it’s possible that John sang the first ahhh, Paul sang the next one, and so on.

It sounds exactly like John to me on all the ahhs. Also, didn’t Geoff Emerick confirm it was John? That plus what my ears tell me is good enough for me.

It could very well be John but as with Ian MacDonald, Geoff Emmerick is often unreliable. For example, he says that George plays bass on Rock And Roll Music on Paul’s Hofner bass in one take. These are the same people who needed 4 takes just to do the backing track of Yellow Submarine , I doubt 1964 George could play bass with the strings reversed that well in one take and this is why I take Geoff’s claims with a grain of salt and don’t trust him as well as I trust other sources.

Well, we all know how this has been debated, and I don’t want to continue that debate. I just wanted to weigh in with my opinion because I had never actually listened before with the intent of deciding who it was…and it seems very clear to me that it’s John. The voice has that nasally John tone.

To be fair, it does sound like John and more people seem to believe that it’s John than Paul, so it could very well be John. What really sucks is that people get into really heated arguments over topics like this one, I sure wish this wasn’t so because I’d like to see Joe unlock the thread about this topic.

It’s strange. I have been listening to this song for over twenty years and I always thought that John sang that part and I never thought twice about it until I saw some debates on this forum.
I still believe it is John but I did listen to the song recently and I do think it is possible that Paul’s voice may be in the mix but I think John’s voice is the lead.

Paul’s voice is in the mix. So is George’s. They’re making ghoulish noises in the background, which can be heard very clearly in the isolated vocals. But John and John alone does the ‘aaaaaah’s’. Everyone who was there, including Paul, says it’s John.

He’s mentioned it in several interviews, how he had to really make sure he finished his bit on the right beat because they were dropping it straight into John’s vocal track and how that really would’ve pissed John off, because then he’d have to record the aaaaah’s again.

I’m sure I’m not the first to think this, but I was wondering if “A Day In The Life ” marks the return of The Beatles? The Beatles are no longer Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, they are back to being themselves?
I always wondered why Sgt Peppers (Reprise) is the second to last song and not the final song. This “Return of The Beatles Theory” is the best theory I have been able to come up with.

I’ve always understood it that way too. That’s what I have always imagined: the concert is over, the musicians are no acts anymore but themselves again and then they perform their song on stage in front of an empty space where the audience had stood before, just for themselves. It matches the dreamy atmosphere at the beginning, I think.

That’s an amazing way to look at it — I never thought of it that way before, but it’s so perfect! It’s like the band have all walked off and the audience are filing out, and there’s just John onstage playing an acoustic guitar quietly to himself…
