It's definetly john. You can tell because John has that kind of voice where he doesn't “ah” or “eh”, but does both of them. It's amazing really.
You mean the backing vocals? Yeah, that's definitely John, you're right. Paul could do MANY things with his voice, like the dreamy “aaahs” in the lead vocal, but he never would've been able to get that sharp edge to his voice like John has in those high “uuuh” and “aaaah”.
Nice description of John's voice – providing MORE proof it's Paul, since he is doing a perfect “aaa”, at least a the beginning. He's doing his chest voice, so he sounds warmer, fuller than John.
I agree the “aaahs” keep getting dreamier as they go and sound more and more like John. But the very last notes, only audible on the vocal track, reveal that it's still Paul, since he stops on his chest voice, which kind of “breaks” at the very, very end. John is doing his sharp backings all the way.
Listen to “Lovely Rita ” the opening ah is MUCH different then the ah's in ADITL. Has to be john. Or possibly

Tell me you were joking as well about George!
Seriously, for the 768th time: It's Paul's chest voice, which is much different from John's, who's in the background.
It's definetly John's voice (In ADITL) Oh, and you really can't compare it to Revolution considering it was distorted.

This never ending argument just proves how big of Beatle geeks we all are. Instead of being productive in the world, we are sitting here arguing over the internet about, what, a ten or fifteen second part of one song. Given, it's the greatest song ever made, and well…that is the best part of the song. But still, we could be doing things like this!

Yes, the backing vocal is definitely John's falsetto voice, no doubt. The lead is very clearly Paul's chest voice. Get over it.
John's Revolution Aaa doesn't sound distorted to me, just very much clipped. It's a different song, so he sings differently. Same with Lovely Rita . I gave you other songs to compare with the vocals.
Paul's chest voice was Helter Skelter . I really don't know what you're trying to prove here. Besides, you're outnumbered.

Ok, Helter Skelter . So, did he sing “Yesterday ” in falsetto, what would you say?
You see, in fact it's you who's trying to “prove” things with – let's say interesting suggestions.
I admit I'm a bit surprised being outnumbered so clearly. I thought the vocal track would make it possible for more people to hear the truth.
And, with all respect, if you really thought it might have been George I can't take your opinion very seriously. You
still didn't tell me if you were joking or not about it…
Besides I have more quotes on my side.
You are quite the assertive one, aren't you? And jeez, calm down, it's 15 seconds of a beatles song. I still think and know it's John (I was kidding about George, though it's still a possibility).

Hey, I'm Mr. Calm!
It's not my fault some people don't want to hear the truth (I'm glad though that at least some were open for it).
Make a decision: Joke or possibility?
And get over it: It's Paul.
No. It's not paul. It's definetly john. Even if it was paul using his “chest voice”, it wouldn't be nearly as legendary as this.

I still don't know what “assertive” means.
Do YOU know what a “chest voice” is?
Do you notice that your post doesn't make sense?
Ah, and it's still Paul. But I said it before: It's a free country, you can believe in what you want!
Alright, it's Paul, in your opinion. By the way, Assertive means your willing to express your feelings in willingness to see both sides of things, but your posts make me think your more aggressive than assertive My post does make sense, because i said if Paul really did sing it instead of john it wouldn't be as legendary.

It just makes me a bit angry because many people don't get the fact that it wasn't only their hero JL who did most of the cool stuff in the Beatles but Sir Paul as well. So I always like to fight for Paul getting the respect he deserves.
While Paul was busy planning Sgt. Peppers, inspired by “Swinging London” JL was buried in suburbia in front of the TV (“Good morning, good morning”!). Many people say he wasn'T very keen on working in the studio, even on his own songs, and let others do the planning for him. During that time he was lazy, bored, frustrated, and filled up with drugs.
Paul was the driving force about almost everything that makes A Day In The Life so legendary, from the line “I'd love to turn you on” to the fantastic piano part to the more substantial idea for the orchestra (in contrast to John's “Apocalypse” sound) to the middle part to the TRANSITION. The others and of course George MArtin contributed greatly as well, but Paul was the main creative power in that phase. Get over it.
And if you really call the transition legendary, than that is thanks to Pauls “soaring” aaahs. John did some funny fooling around in the background, as you can hear on the vocal track (nobody ever seems to care about those backing vocals which are even more obviously John than the lead vocal is Paul).
Yikes, I see we've struck a nerve. Well you say Paul was the creative force, but there is no doubt that John's material was better in terms of quality. They just switched places because in the early days in was John's quantity and Paul's quality that made them great. And as a Beatles fan, not a Lennon fan, I would have to say that the song is most memorable, for me at least, because of John's voice. No one is doubting that Mr. McCartney was a pretty cool dude, but it's just that John was a little bit cooler, to me at least.

I'm a bit confused by the way you use “your” for “You are” and “your”, but I guess I got the meaning. So youwr (ahaha!) using irony here, bravo!
The funny thing is: I never thought about Paul's transition as being very special. If you say his performance is legendary, good for Paul!

According to you, paulsbass,

The dominant lead “aaaah” is without a doubt Paul, though it is totally buried in the “stereo remasters”.
This sounds like you have the original Pepper LP. If you send it to me, I SWEAR I will keep an open mind.
Don't rely on getting it back, though. 😉

Oh my gosh. They really should have kept the vocals on that section more audible.
At first it sounds a little bit like Paul, but then it sounds like John for the remainder of the “aah”s. But I thought the higher harmony bits REALLY should have been more audible in the recording.
Look at what I found! It's fun to sing along!
