-As Zig mentioned in his wonderful write up about his Paul concert experience,
https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..5/#p129161
I talked to a VERY HYPER EXCITED ZIG
*
*well, that’s how we picture him anyway
on the phone in car on the way to the WinStar World Casino.
-After we found our seats, Ex Tex and I went to look at the items for sale. Ex Tex looks quite spiffy in his Ringo ball cap. I got a Ringo 2014 tour shirt and a concert program.
-Ringo!!! I kept thinking about the “Your high height!” thread. I was glad I had a path to see Ringo when everyone was standing up.
–Matchbox
-It Don’t Come Easy (Ringo shouted out Hare Krishna)
-Wings (from his Ringo 2010 album). Here are my favorite lines from the song:
Need you so much
The melody’s coming in clear, so clear
And with your touch the music keeps going around
And around in my ears
-Todd Rundgren (WHO WAS SUPER HYPED UP-he was fun to watch moving all around on the stage) said that what was going on on the stage was the world’s longest running love fest (with added colorful commentary)
-Gregg Rolie (Santana) Evil Ways
-Steve Lukather (Toto) Rosanna which went into a jam session with really good drumming (Gregg Bissonette played like a mad man on some of the songs, quite a show!)
-Richard Page (Mr. Mister) Kyrie, Ringo played the tambourine
-Bang the Drum All Day (Rundgren). At end of song Ringo said, “That’s all I want to do all day. Hey, that IS what I do all day!”
and here’s Ex Tex’s picture of Richie banging the drums
–Boys – Ringo mentioned that it was the 1st song he recorded (singing). He played a little bit of keyboard at the beginning of the song before coming forward to the front of stage to finish singing the song.
–Don’t Pass Me By
-Ringo said, If you don’t know this song, you’re in the wrong venue” and started in on Yellow Submarine
-Black Magic Woman
–Honey Don’t
-Anthem from Ringo 2012. What hit me from this song is the rest of the band singing a little high because there are women backing him in the album.
This is an anthem for peace and love
We gotta keep trying, we can’t give up
This is the day, no turning away
This is an anthemYou think you got it covered
You say you know the score
But people are dying, there’s no denying
But do we, do we know what for?We know, we know, we know
We know, we know, we know it’s true
We know, we know, we know
What we’ve gotta doIt’s not all knives and bullets
It’s from hunger, too
But never say never, let’s get it together
‘Cause we know, we know what to doNo man ever made it on his own
No man ever made it all alone
We’ve gotta help out
And we’ve gotta shout
Richard Page sang a song that mentions John Lennon
What’s the reason why
Da Vinci had to paint
Lennon had to write
About peaceThe chorus to that song
We all need inspiration
A spark that ignites
Something deep inside the soul
A masterpiece that defines a life
And you are mine
-Africa (Toto) there were yellow swirly background lights on the stage back drop, very effective
-Oye Coma Va (Santana)
-Love is the Answer (Rundgren) Ringo said he really loves this song
-Ringo said, “Are there any ladies in the house? This is for you.” then began singing I Want To Be Your Man. I tore my eyes away from Ringo long enough to see two girls around 10 years old going nuts dancing about 5 rows in front of me. The future is secure.
-Broken Wings (Mr. Mister)
-Hold the Line (Toto)
-Photograph
–Act Naturally
When Ringo sang
We’ll make the scene about a man that’s sad and lonely
And begging down upon his bended knee
He got down on one knee.
–With A Little Help From My Friends (yep, that’s when a few tears fell from my eyes while I was belting it out – apologies to that lady who was sitting in front of me)
–Give Peace A Chance

Great review, AG. Thanks for helping me relive his show. I’m kicking myself for not picking up a tour shirt – yours looks very cool. I did not make the same mistake at the Macca show. I wouldn’t mind seeing a photo of the hat ExTex picked up – with or without him underneath it – his call!

One correction to AG’s review.
Ringo said that Don’t Pass Me By was the first song he wrote that was recorded…not the first song he wrote, but the first one that was recorded. Then he played the keyboard intro.
This didn’t happen with the song Boys . Boys was a Shirelles song.
Great review, and thanks for adding my photo. I took a few more, but that was one of the better ones. I actually wish I had taken less photos and just soaked up the love.
My hat is sitting here at the desk…I’ll work on getting a photo of it…And Zig, I was telling AG that I almost asked to speak to you on the phone but didn’t want to be impolite.

I would have enjoyed that. Apologies for not suggesting it myself – I was a wee bit…out of sorts?

I, sadly, did not get a tour shirt from Paul. Too much dollars…
I bought one last year, $40, and it was that thin concert tee material that shrinks a lot – I was very disappointed. Ringo’s shirts were much better quality – they did run small but shouldn’t shrink, tg I’ve lost weight!

^^ @Expert Textpert To argue for the other side, I adore my shirt with the David Bailey pic. I don’t think it’s too thin. But I also don’t plan to wear it that often, I wash it as a delicate, etc.

A rather cranky review of Ringo’s concert in Santa Barbara. And they seem to be confusing his age with Paul’s.

I agree with Mr Pallidino’s comments on ‘Kyrie’ (“But there was also Richard Page, the unconscionably horrible frontman for the terribly derivative band Mr. Mister. Sitting through a live version of the arch-insipid “Kyrie” is the last thing I thought I would do in my precious waning years.“), i left the room when that came on and went for a walk around the Clyde Auditorium.

My favorite part was when he scribbled:
Chris Rollie, who led note-perfect reproductions of his old band Santana’s biggest hits
So…did Chris fill in for his brother GREGG?!?!

Back from the concert. My pics are here: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. Those who are seeing him later this year might be interested in seeing the merchandise table.
My seat was perfect – I was back in the middle section, but I had the first row, so there were no heads blocking my view. And I had the very last seat on the right side, so I had ample room to dance in the aisle and not have to deal with anyone telling me to sit down.
It was a great show! So much energy! It seemed like it was cut a bit short due to the curfew at The Greek, and I wish there’d been far more Ringo up front, but I understand this format works best for him. And it was a thrill to see and hear him on drums.
That said, my favorite non-Ringo moments involved the guy from Mister Mister. One, because I love “Broken Wings” and “Kyrie.” But also, he debuted a new song, for which Ringo sat and played bongos. There was no encore, Ringo just went straight into “Photograph” and “With A Little Help From My Friends .” Ringo didn’t do “Octopus’s Garden ,” which pissed off a lot of people. But personally, I heard everything I wanted – particularly “I Wanna Be Your Man ” (albeit in a lower key). I was very surprised to see Ringo play a bit of keyboard at the beginning of “Don’t Pass Me By .” It was especially touching to hear “Photograph,” because I kept thinking of the Grammy performance with the Beatle photos in the background. And he was so darn cute during “With a Little Help ,” bouncing around like someone half his age.
Edit: I looked at the setlist Ahhh Girl posted, and it appears he hasn’t been doing Octopus’s Garden on this tour. A bit odd considering he has that recent children’s book of the same name. Also, I didn’t see an encore listed.
And now I can say I’ve seen the two surviving Beatles while I had a chance, for which I am ever grateful. Off to bed, I’m wiped!
